GTX 580 Lightning

I've been wanting to watercool my graphics card since I built my new rig cause the noise of the 580 lightning gets to me when its on load so I manually set the fan speed to 55% before playing any game.

I was wondering if I should sell this card and get a reference one (maybe the EVGA one) and then fit a waterblock on it for water cooling or wait until the new series of cards come out, the 6xx series?

Maybe clean your case remove any dust etc? before making any hasty decisions

How about lowering the clocks a bit ? you really don't need all the 580 can do, maybe put v-sync on etc ?

I got a headset so i've really got no idea how much noise my system makes..

I've not overclocked it any further than it came and I use a headset too but not always.

do you use ab at all? you can set ur own fan profile for the card I found it keeps things cool and quiet. I do 50% for everyday stuff and then have it go up 1% per degree above 50 to 100% at 100c which I never hit over 70c

dont know what ab is but the card itself would go up roughly about 1% per degree and 70c used to be my maximum and sumtimes it wuld be 70% and damn that was too loud for me so I have it at 40% idle and 55% on load so its fine when the sound is on but I'd prefer watercooling and just wanted to know if it is really worth selling this and getting a reference card.

ab is afterburner its an MSI oc utility but works with just about all cards. Even the enemies err I mean AMD's

Hmm, you could lower the clocks, and so the voltage, if performance is less important to you. I have the Twin Frozr II one, but the fan speed is rarely above 80%, and on average lower than that. Its quiet too.

PS I have (Core/Mem) 800/4096, Lightning has 832/4200

well if the plan is to wc then I'd say yes you'd have to sell and get a reference card I misunderstood from the start I thought it was because of the fan noise lol. is it worth it???? I dont think so the main reason most wc is to oc it higher since ur running stock I would keep what ya got and setup a fan profile that works for your ears.

reason being is that you'd have to buy a new card rad waterblock pump rez tubing barbs tuning fans guestimating costs here say 500$ for gpu and depending on parts for the wc loop 250-300$

I'm from the UK and the card is fairly new so I'd try and get something like £320 or £350 since I got it for £400, and I already have money for water cooling, may just wait for the next gen of cards and just water cool everything in my system when those come out.

I would, and just set the fan speed manually but be careful and do not let it get too hot
