?? been probably posting 1ce or 2ce a week for a fair while mate.

Granted I got to spend a whole load of time on engineers' sites, I don't get much time to do public stuff.

Cherry picked GPU's mate. Its not proper, its practically gone through xfactor selection.

(quick Ed.. I'm not laughing at you I'm laughing because of the Xfactor comment)

28157 P-Score for the overclocked Lightning is exactly what the GTX480 should have been when it was first released.

In fact if there is one overriding impression we've had from the MSI N480GTX Lightning it's this :

nVidia, What the hell were you doing??

From your review and I completely and totally agree with you. Had Nvidia taken some ideas from the 480L onboard? then the 580 would be better. It would be quieter and cooler. So yes, the 580 is what the 480 should have been. But then so was the 480L.

i think there is 3 OC versions out

lmao they're super lame though dude. Get this.

What are these cards? 6 series Radeons?

That is soooo lame. 27 mhz... ROFL. I wonder if it's this throttling thing? In which case that will be all you'll get. Has any one found any reviews where they were able to be clocked higher?

Maybe my posts are written in the same blue as the background, but I don't thinks so...

Postet a link to a german page ( sry 4 that ) that sells a PALIT with 835MHz Core,

1.670MHz shader and 2.100MHz ram-clock...

LINK AGAIN

Thanks X

God, I can't wait for the OC3D review. I want to see this b**tard tortured. Not just the generic

Ooo it's fast, oooo it's what the 480 should have been

But really tortured to breaking point.

Yup.. Just finished reading Hardware Canucks review and they say that the card didn't go over 70 degrees full load while folding.

Also for the overclock they hit ummm *checks*

Core Speed: 902Mhz

Processor Clock: 1804Mhz

Memory Speed: 4408Mhz (QDR)

Should power levels exceed spec, the GPU throttles performance. More on this once we get to power testing.

So those clocks may well be an illusion. My Hyundai Tiburon used to have 150mph on the clock. Fact was out of the factory it couldn't do more than about 120.

I used to have a 5900 Ultra. I read about how my card was identical to a 5950 ultra and all you needed to do was flash the bios. However, what I didn't bank on was the auto throttle kicking in at certain temps and downclocking my card making it slower because the cooling couldn't keep it cool enough to go as fast as the 5950u could.

As I say I guess it's a case of waiting to see. Apparently they did it to stop people seeing how hot the card can get in Furmark. Probably because people did that first to the 480 GTX and were absolutely alarmed and disgusted at the temps.

Tom said the card has been cut down (I'm sure that's what he said). And this is why I am absolutely desperate to see what the card really does.

Is hardware canucks the one ran by the bald American dude who reviews things in his kitchen and fits 24gb of ram to his gaming PC?

Notice that the GeForce GTX 580 isn’t even represented. The protection circuitry that Nvidia added prevents the card from running FurMark without throttling down. So, the maximum power shown appears to be lower than the GTX 470, though that’s clearly not realistic. AMD and Nvidia have long despised FurMark for its ability to inflate consumption figures, and now it looks like they're finally going to get to see it phased out.

Cowards.

Doesnt the lightning still have some of its hardware locked?

Cooler wise it seems to be spot on but the 580 has all of its architecture unlocked.

Note the above. They have added throttling. So whilst the 580 offers more it may well offer less when pushed hard. They're quite crafty with that. Furmark uses a GPU 100%. Thus, it shows you the absolute maximum power draw the card can perform. However, overclocking and over volting a card will also push the power draw up considerably. So whilst the 580 does perform very well out of the box there may not be an awful lot left in it. Where as with the Lightning the sky is the limit sort of

Well now I am curious about the AMD 69xx cards. I really want to know how the 580 is going to match up with them.

Even if some one had known the answer to that then it would probably be a different answer now any way.

From what I heard the 69 series were coming in time for Christmas. This gives them about 7 weeks to look over the 580 and adjust their cards accordingly. Let's face it, they're definitely not about to release a slower card.

When Nvidia originally sent out Beta versions of the 480 it was slower and cooler than the actual one that was released. However, they realised it was slower than the 5870 and that would have been a foolish release to make.

So yeah, I would imagine the 6970 will beat it. And the 6990 will be a force unto itself
