GTX 570 SLI heat help

Hey guys, I've SLI'd my MSI Twin Frozr iii 570 with a Palit sonic platinum 570 and I'm getting above 85-90 Celsius under full load and 50 on idle, my case is a fractal design R4. I was wondering if its the case or if its just how hot these cards get, both running at stock with one PCI slot space between them, its just a nightmare being sat next to two jet engines. Here's a shot of the beast.

Just did that now, a 2-3 degree difference in battlefield 3, these cards are pumping out a ton of heat though so their coolers are definitely working different case perhaps?
 
What fans do you have around the case and where? When i replaced the stock coolermaster fans in my case with corsair af120's and a bit fenix spectre pro my temps dropped a few degrees.
 
yeah sorry, they're the fractal design fans that came with the case, 2x 140mm and 2x 120mm i bought the 2 extra 120 fractal fans, they seem to push alot of air on there own but not when in use on the case :S
 
I've no experience in fractal fans but fans that come with the case normally aren't the best. See what someone else ,who's had experience with the fans, says about it but i would replace them with corsair fans or something similar :)

well yeah its a silent design case ,changing fan brand/tipe wont help really.but test the temps with the side panel off .if the temps dont drop by a lot(not so much lol) than your problem isn`t the case and changing fans wont help at all.anyway heat and noise is something that you have to live with when SLI/CF`ing. thats why i say pass on that.anyway test with side panel off
 
if they are to be used in tight spaces you want fans that use static pressure like the fans you would use for your rads, these have the extra push you might need to bring the temps down, maybe use a static preasure fan infront of you GPUs
i know corsair do the differant types maybe look around and see what you get
 
Well for now I'm waiting on getting money for new fans but I have reorientated my fan set up by moving a bigger fan to the side panel which is exhausting, I've noticed a 10 degree drop so it was a big help but i need better fans to cool the rest of the system I'll have to mod the front mount of my case to be able to fit the corsair air flow 140's though :S
 
It was a very similar setup to that with my own pair of GTX 570's that made me ultimately go the water route.

I initially set my side case fan to suck into the case - my theory being that cooler external air being fed to the GPU's was the best thing to do. However, when I reversed that fan to suck the warm air directly away - with a front 140mm fan pulling air in - only then did I see my temps drop markedly.

In addition I used bits of card inside the case to direct the air-flow from the front fan between the cards, giving the upper fan a little more air. This did help balance things out nicely but, come summer, the noise and temps were up quite high once more, hence going water.

It was quite amazing how much heat came out of that side fan on the case, so it was doing its job without a doubt.

Yeahh there not throttling back any more so thats always good, I'd really love to go water cooling but my msi 570 has a custom pcb which i havent seen a good full waterblock if not any at all for it.
I've underclocked my cards to cater for the extra heat but that card idea sounds good :D but at the moment the side fan is breathing fire! :)
 
Itis quite shocking how much heat an SLI setup can produce. I had mine at 850mhz for the most part! Still, with my solution my temps generally stayed in the low-70's - the flip side of that was a lot of noise mind.

My original (Palit) GTX 570 was the original reference PCB - so, same as the 580' My 2nd car was a newer Inno3d with the new reference "HD" design, two different blocks. I've decided now to always buy matched pairs of GPU's that I've already confirmed have blocks, which is what I did with my 680's.

Currently my GTX 680's @ 1200mhz rarely get above about 34c in gaming & benchmarks like Heaven. That's in a room that's usually around the 18c mark at the moment - so about 16c over ambient. Sorry, just dead chuffed is all :)

Thats pretty good :D yeah i couldn't find a msi 570 that was new so i settled on the palit so ill have to wait on a gpu overhaul next year for new cards but these cards still pack a punch so ill work on getting them all the airflow they deserve :L thanks for the heads up on water blocks btw :D

Oh yeah, those 570 are brilliant cards - they'll handle pretty much everything at 1080p with ease. Also, the "only" 1.25gb of vRam never seemed to be an issue for me.

Yeahh i was lucky with these too can get a 940mhz on core when not in sli :L and yeah i haven't hit any limitation in that department :D
 
Heh, best I got was 930 stable on my original pair of 570's - I never did do the vCore unlock though. When I went to water I thought I might, but I never got around to it.

My 680's are at 1200 at the mo, that's about as high as they go without me touching the voltages. I likely will tweak some more at some point, but not yet as they're still new.

I'd still be using my 570's if one hadn't started to get flakey on me - it was 2nd hand and I got it cheap so I guess I can't grumble.
