GTX 570 annoying noise?

Got a MSI GTX N570 reference card and am really pleased with it. Only thing is, it tends to make a very high pitched squealing noise when playing certain games; notably Minecraft. During the loading screen when the card maxes out the game at about 300fps it starts to make the noise, and then stops when loading is complete. The funny thing is, as the loading goes faster, the pitch of the squeal changes! It is very weird, and as far as I can tell it only happens on Minecraft.

Is this normal? Should I be worried since it only happens on one game? Does Minecraft do anything special with my card that could be causing this?

Thanks

Not uncommon. The more FPS as well as the more stress the louder the noise gets. Its generally caused by i believe is the chokes.

But if it get too loud and happens to often i would get a return because it can SOMETIMES lead to a serious issue, like a dead GPU or in the worse possible case a fire <BUT that's a REALLY low chance.

my 5870 lightning did the same thing and it lasted me a little longer than a year before i upgraded and it still works great.

I think if your graphics card is making a squeeling sounds, it a sign that you card isnt getting enough power. what PSU do you have? check you have got your PCI power cables properly seated in the card

Also it might be worth enabling Vsync, as there is not point in having your framerate going faster that what your screen can display.

Err, hard drives load things, not graphics cards? Try the card in another rig and see if it still squeals.

I've got the MSI GTX 570 and overclocked it to 927/1854/2000 @ 1.025v and I hear nothing. My max temp is 77deg and idle is 35deg. Might be worth keeping an eye on if I were you.

Switch around the pcie power connectors to the gfxcard. Adopt an adaptor that may have come with the card if you have to. (if this involves molex cables, don't use the same molex cable line that may be powering another device also)

Squealling can be from one of two things; an "unclean" power source; or the power regulators on the device itself. The latter isn't a good scenario.

Overclocked mobos and gfxcards are the biggest culprits.

How high pitched is it?

I have the same issue with my GTX460 but as I have sensitive hearing (Not good I can just hear really high frequencies, It wasn't that long ago I found out humans can't hear dog Whistles I always thought we could as I can hear them).

I did a lot of searching and found myself here on OC3D lol, Any ways it was found to be a common thing but 99% of people can't hear that high so no one notices GPU's doing it,

Any ways my card has done it form day 1 and its almost a year old and no issues.

Can other people hear it? or is your hearing just "good"?

and yes do a little testing as it could also be it failing, PSU's make high pitched noises under strain.

I think different people have their hearing spectrum slanted in either the bass or high pitch. Mine is in bass, I can't understand loud female lyrics yet deep gutteral male lyrics I can make out fine.

If you can adjust the fan speeds for your GPU, lower them, play Minecraft or whichever game makes it squeal, then you may be able to hear whether the sound is coming from the GPU or PSU better
