GTX 460 2Win

I read a little about the release of a new GTX 460 card with dual GPU 460's and 2 GB of ram (GTX 460 2WIN). I have to wonder what Nvidia was thinking? With the "Single Fastest Video Card" crown going to AMD with the release of the AMD 6990. Did they have a ton of left overs or are they trying to divert attention away from the fact their new monster card GTX 590 hasn't seen the light of day? Maybe they're having heating problems and are using smoke and mirrors to avoid the problems that AMD is having with their new flagship.

So what do you guys think? IS there room for a dual GPU card that doesn't perform much better than the GTX 580?

Inquiring minds want to know ......

I will have loads of use for it which i will let happen!!

and for my use , AMD(ATI) sucks donkey balls and not with 110% but with 210%

al tho i seriously hope they (Stanford) will fix this ASAP!!

Well I don't see why not, if it's less expensive than a 580 but performs the same/better..

You can already get two GTX 460's in the US for a good deal less than a GTX 580. So why not just get a couple of them instead? I'm just saying is this just a diversion to get us away from the proposed GTX 590?

Just my 2 cents ....

2 460s on one PCB avoids the complications with SLI, both the problems you can get in some games and the requirements. Whereas with 2 460 cards you get those problems.

Also it's an EVGA only card, there is no reference NVIDIA 2WIN in existence I believe. It was said in another thread that it could be EVGA trying to get rid of all their left over 460 chips.

I thought the dual chip cards still used SLI so you really wouldn't avoid any SLI issues other than not having a bridge. I was under the impression that games still saw it as a SLI setup.

Maybe some people only have a single pcie 16x slot, on like a matx, and they want gtx 580 like performance for alot less. It looks like it will be a good card if the price is right. Not to mention 3 monitor support off of one card.

And I thought the 3rd smaller chip on dual GPU cards was there so it wouldn't be considered SLI so games without an SLI profile can still take advantage of the card. I think the answer to this requires a quick check around the internet to be sure.

*edit*

We're both right

That chip performs SLI so you don't need an SLI certified motherboard, but the computer recognises 2 cores. Nvidia control panel treats it as one I suppose so you cannot disable the SLI between the 2 cores. You will still get the SLI problems with a dual GPU card

I don't know that this new GPU is really that much cheaper than a GTX 580. While it's a solution for those that only have a single PCIE 16X slot, it's a short range solution and may not be as good as a GTX 570.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the bus (MB's with single PCIE slot)treat the 2 GPU's on the bus the same as SLI, meaning it will access them utilizing 2 8X buses?

I'm still wondering why they have delayed the release of the GTX 590?

Well the rumors are that this will retail about $350 or about the price of a 570. But thats just speculation. And 2 460s will give you slightly more performance give or take, than a 580, depending on the game.

anybody know when these are out they look fast and hopefully cheap but i doubt it otherwise they will have a load of 580's sat on the shelves

Ive been lookin around. I Hope it comes soon. I'm not a real hardcore pc gamer, I use my console for most (i know i know) but I do like to play mmos and rts titles on my pc, and this card will be perfect for 3 monitors and great performance in a single card.
