GTX 295 are now out for sale any views ??

Yes will be intresting to see what they have to say about them.

guess you'd be better to wait regardless as with the economy the way it is I too think they will start dropping fairly fast

Might just buy the one off Play for £380. Or wait until they get stock anyway.

It beats out two 260's from the reviews but yeah comes just behind two 280's which is to be expected as they have 1GB RAM each and higher clocks. Have you seen how the 295 overclocks yet?? It's a champ overclocker.

I don't know about the better option... Depends on your uses and if you have any faith in what CUDA can offer. For me, it'll be great for transcoding vids and stuff. I know the X2 could do the same but I didn't like that software much. As for performance between the two there is no denying the 295 is the faster card. That said there are only 2 games where this will actually make a noticeable difference over the X2.

With regards to sticking it on 1 PCB, that would have been impossible. With the two monolithic GPU's along with all the RAM, other chips and bits and bobs there just wasn't enough room by a mile.

A few of the reviewers said that they too though the 9800GX2 was a load of poo and thought the 295 was gonna be the same, but they were swayed by it. Be interesting to see what either Jimbo or Rich think about it when they get their hands on it.

*waits*

Maybe with LN2??? I have never seen a rig with gtx280's reach 30k without LN2 or phase i simply don't beleive it's possible without insane overclocks or else something is very very fishy

I am comparing stock for stock/factory OC'd cards with my i7 @ 3.8ghz which is a realistic 24/7 stable usable pc, no fiddles glitches tricks or favours all fair and square

Just that there are some strange results from people when single 280s outscore 2x280s, but it looks like it happens. Has to be the way each person has installed them.

280 setups go well into the 30s.

Yes impressive, but means little in this debate as hes using LN2

will get hold of vantage and post my result with my glh 4870x2

Here's one of the oc masters hitting 30k with 2x8800 GTS 512 with ln2 >.<

(what really helps is the cpu tho, 3dmark06 is kinda artificial in that sense, something I think Vantage weeds out somewhat - tho it aint perfect itself)

Means little ? If 2x8800 GTS can reach 30k, what u think 2x280 can do on a ln2 setup ?

Think inside the box. :p

EDIT: Actually they only do 32.9k, 2x4870x2 do 35k. Christ knows what 2x280x2 would do >.<

Yes but this means jack $hit for real world users, hes running a i7 965 @4800ghz not many people have 965 or even i7's for that matter yet alone a i7 965 on ln2/phase @4.8ghz!!!!

Crazy overclocked LN2/Phase systems are a small minority and mean nothing in this topic and to a very good many of prospective buyers of any of the cards.

Show me some gtx280's in sli with i7 cpus @ 3.8ghz or as near as dammit bettering my score.

Meh regular stock clocked tri sli 280s only get 31k on air. http://www.hwbot.org/compare.do?resultId=795689

It says that it is 896 bit which is 448bit x2

which if you guys know is the same bit rate as the gtx 260 right???

I mean this is just 2 gtx260 put together right??

maybe I need to point this out a little more LOL Allow me...take a look at this pic you sent now...and tell me whats wrong

4.2ghz i7 is still a considerable clock to acheive don't worry about that and it is of course a full 400mhz per core faster than my setup, but more importantly its a bench with three most likely volt modded 280's. with the fans screaming their heads off.

I am not getting my knickers in a twist my friend I'm merely trying to get my facts straight, and super high overclocks are meaning very little as I have been trying to point out in the most civil way.

I am attempting to make my own decisions, to see if I indeed beleive the 295 is in fact a much better choice...if it is I will switch, I have the oppertunity to switch now if I wish at a cost of sweet nothing, i'm just not convinced its a wise move, but many here think it would be, I just wouldn't want to swap a very good card for a gloryfied gx2 or something lesser than what I just got rid off 2x gtx380 OCX in SLI.

I just cannot see how the 295 is going to be better than 2x 280's and since I'm finding the 4870x2 better I think it would appear to be a bad move...are you getting my drift???

Dunno why u getting ur knickers in a twist, but here's an air one for u if u like:

http://www.hwbot.org/compare.do?resultId=795982

It's a 965 at about 4.2, which aint ground breaking - it may aswell not be an extreme, and merely 3g.

Does a decent beer mat under 28k.

Not quite true... It has the same memory bandwidth and capacity as the 260 but it has a lot more shaders.. Think it's at 480 or something. The clocks are the same as the 260's but they easily overclock to 280 levels and quite a bit higher on top.

I see where ur coming from.

From what I could see about the submission places and reviews, ur 2x280 results seemed somewhat off m8.

seems strange I must admit though, even I expected more from them but even when I had my qx9770 rig it was the same, if my memory serves me correct about 1k lower cpu was @4ghz.

just got this windows 7 running all seems good gonna see what difference it makes and gonna try vantage see what my 4870x2 thinks to it, sure I posted a vantage score on here a while back with my gtx's will have to have a little search.

We could do with a Win7 beta thread in the OS section tbh for people to stick in findings and such.

yes agreed would be very usefal will make a suggestion..

edit suggestion made

Hows this one...(4870x2 GLH)

Everything air 4ghz (stable!)

p.s windows 7 does seem to lower the score slightly by about 500 points, no idea why???

gonna keep tweaking....think theres more :D
