GTX 295 are now out for sale any views ??

Looks as if the 295 performs like 260 in sli, and finely tuned. Just enough to be faster than the 4870x2.

I did think it would fall short of 280s in sli.

Kinda cunning stunt to make 2x 280s still purchasable, madness.

This is all b4 the best drivers for it are realized.

Hmm there's been a discussion about the drivers on another (dutch) forum too. Outcome was pretty much that the 295 drivers are basically SLi drivers for the 280 and because of that will also already be fully developed. Of course there will be some tweaks, but no major improvements. An ATi user however, said that ATi could open a so called "sideport", improving performance a little more.

Ah but I have to tell you I runned 2 and at one point 3 gtx BFG280 OCX cards in SLI and I can tell you this I find the stock refrence 4870x2 a tiny tiny little bit quicker infact, where as my OC'd gainward GLH 4870x2 (in sig) is considerably quicker again...I'm suprised!!!

I know its kind of little to go by but....

4870x2 Refrence Stock

edit: thought I had proof of this but seem to have lost it??? it was however about 22800 points

4870x2 Top Bios (stock flashed) 790/915mhz

Well all the reviews (I've read about 5 so far with another 10 to go) do show that there is like 1 or 2 games that the X2 can match the 295 and also in 3DMark06 it beats it but when it comes to Vantage, the 295 demolishes the X2.

With regards to everything else, the drivers that the reviews are done on have added something like 10% over the preview drivers that were used last month. There will still be more to come from drivers with no doubt.

Other benefits though would be the lower power consumption, less heat and quieter as well as CUDA.

Loved my X2 but now it's gone I think I might have to go for the 295 and be done with it for a while.

Oh yeah and as for the X2's sideport, well when the original previews and hoo har was about, it was said that they would likely never actually activate it. Can't remember why but I aint sure that it'll make too much difference. If they do and it does then all good though :).

Been looking at the Zotac one on Ebuyer at £400 ish... Zotac now come with 5 years warranty and are one of the partners that include the HDMI cable in their bundle.

Kinda wanna see if day zero prices fall a little though.

ATi's reply will most probably be price drops (€369 for the Sapphire reference model atm here, w00t) and maybe the sideport opening if it makes any difference.

Phew lots of reviews. Not really awake enough to read through them all at the moment xD

Na I know.. I wanna read them but I can't bring myself to do them all. Will maybe do two now. Being the mug that I am, I agreed to work this weekend overtime so I can't stay up until all hours. Crap...

Oh yeah they already did the price drop... Can get the PowerColour one for about £340 on Ebuyer I think... Might be £360 actually... Can't remember.

Edit: Oooooh, can pick up the BFG 295 on Play.com for £399. Gotta wait 10 days for stock though.

Edit X2: Already a price drop on the Zotac one on Ebuyer: £392.15inc vat

Edit X3: Just thought that anyone can get 5% off at play.com which is £20 so total down to £380... Nice. 10 Year BFG warranty.

Maybe so, But i simply cannot see how two underclocked gtx280' PCB joined with an SLI ribbon in the case can be superior to 2x gtx280ocx cards, Bungral I think you had the better option in your hand last week ;)

Could be wrong and we will of course see but I doubt it, I feel this card will land right in the middle of gtx260 & 280 sli myself personaly.

I feel this card could have been much better if nV had gone with a single pcb solution as the 4870x2 and to add to this I still have very little confidence in there drivers I know it was a while back but its all de-ja-vu.... this is the powerfulest card we will keep udating drivers all we be fine yard yard yar..... in the end it fizzled..... the GX2 didn't live upto the hype, But on the other hand maybe they may just get this one right especialy since ATi are hot on there heels now, I will wait and see what joe public say about this one, If it is really all that good and is considerably better than the ati offering nV will have another customer for one, but again I have my doubts on this one, me personaly I eagerly await ati's response and nv's next gen sing card solution.

Even still regardless either card will be more than capable of anything you can throw at it, for a good while to come be it 4870x2,gtx295 and gtx280 sli or single for that matter, they are all top notch high quality cards.

Me personaly I'd say dodge zotac had many cards go a$$ up with them namely 3 gtx280's!!!! BFG,EVGA I highly recommend personaly had very little trouble and there RMA is very good, people may so otherwise but this is my opinion.

Has to be the way they're installed m8.

Over on hwbot there are cases of 2x280 scoring around 23k @755mhz and just above them a single 280 @ 760mhz with a bit more, so u aint the only one.

Meanhwhile, single 295 @ 690 on air are scoring 29k - 3dmark06.

295 @ 701 scoring 22.6k on Vantage, presumed air at this point. The ln2 4870x2 is hitting 22k.

Might just buy the one off Play for £380. Or wait until they get stock anyway.

It beats out two 260's from the reviews but yeah comes just behind two 280's which is to be expected as they have 1GB RAM each and higher clocks. Have you seen how the 295 overclocks yet?? It's a champ overclocker.

I don't know about the better option... Depends on your uses and if you have any faith in what CUDA can offer. For me, it'll be great for transcoding vids and stuff. I know the X2 could do the same but I didn't like that software much. As for performance between the two there is no denying the 295 is the faster card. That said there are only 2 games where this will actually make a noticeable difference over the X2.

With regards to sticking it on 1 PCB, that would have been impossible. With the two monolithic GPU's along with all the RAM, other chips and bits and bobs there just wasn't enough room by a mile.

A few of the reviewers said that they too though the 9800GX2 was a load of poo and thought the 295 was gonna be the same, but they were swayed by it. Be interesting to see what either Jimbo or Rich think about it when they get their hands on it.

*waits*

They do overclock something chronic it seems. Wonder if they would go much further under water?

To be very honest with you I don't particurlaly regard 3dmark etc to be worth much more than a very rough guide and my primary use is as a good overclock testing app

Not following you here my 2x gtx280's @660mhz scored 22500 odd v 23k @755mhz.

Don't really undertand what your trying to say, what do you mean I by I aint the only one, there of course peope with 30k and people with 2k I don't follow you???

I must be getting tired LOL :D

p.s presume your taking into account different cpu's here, as of course they will vary, I am giving you my anlayzes with them cards in my i7 machine @3.8ghz no LN2 etc etc I have been very fortunate to try them all personaly and in the end 9and I'm very suprised I have ended up saying this, as a few months back I'd have dissmissed any ati coming close to nv) my GLH 4870X2 is at the top and in to be honest from certain games which really stress the GPU I have noticed a small difference.

Just that there are some strange results from people when single 280s outscore 2x280s, but it looks like it happens. Has to be the way each person has installed them.

280 setups go well into the 30s.
