GTA V Disk Space...

So... I had to clean then hell out of my SSD last week to preload GTA V...

Ok, fine I can live with it using 60GB on SSD, so I am UBER excited for the release today, click the play button and it says installing updates, 87GB later and I have run out of room on my SSD so won't be installing GTA V. Needless to say I am really miffed.

Any idea on how much space you need to get it up and running, surely it cant be that much more than 90GB???

BTW I have downloaded it from Steam store if that makes any difference.

Thanks for anyones help!

Jasper

Have i missed something here?

My install was 60gb. I havent updated today however, but can't see how it should take up even more :O

Hey Warchild,

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it a lot!

I know it is very strange, I preloaded the game last week and initially it only used up 59.81GB, then when I tried to run it today it suddenly ate up the last 30GB of my SSD and then my SSD ran out of space and I wasn't able to continue.

I have now removed all the files from my PC and am reinstalling the game as we speak and it said again it required 59.81GB so we will have to wait and see.

Is it perhaps something to do with the files unpacking so requiring more space the first time it runs and then once that has completed the space goes back down to 59.81?

Jasper.

well as I said,

I have yet to update the latest patch but once I installed the 60gb, thats exactly what my SSD stated was used up. Hopefully someone else can comment who has run the latest update.

On a side note I installed and downloaded from the Rockstar launcher

The initial download is the compressed 60GB files, the game basically doubles in size when installing and then cuts back down to 60GB when finished.

Make sure you download it onto a drive with more than enough space or you can corrupt the initial download package.

Turns out this only happens with the preloaded version of the games because the files are encrypted so need to unpack, if you do not preload the game then the issue is not present... I am currently reinstalling the game now so now it should work fine! thanks anyway buddy!

Thats good to hear. Still gonna take 18 hours for me... ;)

Well i just updated mine having preloaded it. Didnt take up any more space other than the 60gb I had already downloaded.

Not sure why yours needed an extra 30gb.

Also as a side note.

Do not max out your ssd. You will wear the nand considerably faster and the drive will not last as nearly as long. You should always keep 20% free storage and at minimum 10%. This is why many many people don't buy 60GB ssds anymore.. because it's gone nearly as fast you got it.
