GTA IV 1680x1050

So i am very eager to play gta 4 on my new pc

however it will not run at 1680x1050 I get a D3D error. So if i scale down the resolution it works -.- but the max resolution available is 1600x1200 which annoys me. I have reinstalled the nvidia drivers for my gtx 260 with little sucess! and I have tried forcing the resolution. Any other ideas?

I dont want to play at 800x600

Have you tried updating DirectX? D3D errors are DirectX errors.

So I did try installing that, still didnt work. so i set my screen to 800x600 and the game loaded. I tried to change the resolution and it went up to 1600x1200. So I though i would change the vga cables in my monitors around. Surely enough it works now. This has to be the most retarded thing ever!

Ahhh VGA, yeah, VGA has a limited resolution you need DVI/HDMI or DP to do Hi Res.
