Graphics Card Selection

Hi Guys

I am currently putting my new rig together and i am kind of torn between what GPU i am going to get. I want this to be a top top class rig for gameing.

My Rig specs will be:

CM HAF X case

Corsair Ax 1200w PSU (Might be a litte overkill)

Asus Rampage 3 Black Edition 1366 Mobo.

i7-970 CPU @ 4.0Ghz+

Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler.

Mushkin Enhanced Redline 3x2GB RAM (Will add another 6 GB if needed)

Boot drive: SSD when i make up my mind which 1 to get

Game/Program drive: WD VelociRaptor 600GB 10k rpm.

Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

After cancelling my initial order of the Radeon 6990 (due to noise concerns etc.) i have pretty much decided to get a GTX 580 or 2. Problem is there are so many juicy choices out there that i am at a loss.

The card that really caught my eye was the MSI GeForce GTX 580 Lightning (Twin Frozr III) and i was just wondering if there were better candidates out there like the Radeon version of the same card or perhaps going with the MSI GeForce GTX 570 in SLI. Another good one is the Asus GTX 580 DirectCU II. Might evan concider getting 2 of the lightning cards unless you think its total overkill but i do want this PC to last a good 2 years before haveing to do any serious upgrading.

Any advice would be very appreciated.

If you have the money get two msi gtx 580 lightning since they perform better than a single gtx 590 and are also quiet.

2X 580 will hold you for 2 years no problem. But prices drop rapidly so I would get one 580 now and upgrade it in one year

How would 2 x MSI GTX 570 "Twin Frozr II" in SLI stack up against 1 GTX 580 "Twin Froze III" Ligtning.

Reason i ask i because the lightning cost 510 Euroes in my country and the 570's "only" cost 350 Euroes.

Allthough, if 2 580 Lightnings in SLI have a HUGE! performance boost i will just bite the bullet and get those

if money is not an issue, get 2 580 lightning. or 1 now another later..

510 Euros is expensive, here in Singapore it's sold for around $770 - $790 SGD

510 Euros x 1.8 = $918 SGD..!!

topping up $200SGD can get you a 590 here..

Products life isn't being expected to be too long overclocking seems like a good option next year the 580 will probably be 2/3rd's the price it is right now after all same goes for the other cards as something bigger and better comes out(probably hotter and more power hungry to lol). although from reviews a single 580 should smash any game out atm unless your going triscreen single 580 is my vote. for tri screen sli 570? tis just my thoughts though the guys above me know more than me hehe

With your money I'd get 1 580 now, then another in a year or so when the prices drop. Or in a years time you could get the next best thing if need be, a single 580 will chomp through most things you throw at it with ease.
