Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 and UD7

First glance, these look... Good and bad points. Both have 2 x16 PCI-E slots, and all the SATA ports are 6GB/s SATA3, which is nice to see.

Bad points for me are the number of USB3 ports (2 at the back, 2 on a header) and an Etron controller, not NEC like other boards, even their own. Don't know if that will cause problems or not, which brings me to my next huge disappointment:

They're using VIA Firewire chipsets. These have always been substandard to the Texas Instruments controllers Gigabyte have used in the past, and are known for being quite picky about what devices they support and how well they do so. I know this isn't a big deal to most people, but people with Firewire external soundcards, like myself, have always held Gigabyte boards in high esteem for this.

One other good thing is the additional PCIe power is a SATA connector on the edge of the board, much like the X58-OC.

ud7 supports 4 way sli

pretty sick

Not impressed i will keep my 790FX for the duel LAN ports and its unduplex-ed teaming support for duel port switch's.

There is not a 990FX with duel lan yet, and looks like there will not be.

What were they thinking, I will hold on for AM4.

I think the main disappointment is when you put these boards up against the Intel UD5/UD7s. The features on those seem better than the AM3+ ones. Unless you really need quad SLI/XFire that is...

Which brings me to another point - AMD showing off the Bulldozers at E3 and not Computex. Is it just me, or are they trying to shift themselves into a main focus/USP on being known as top choice for gaming rigs, instead of trying to beat Intel for the "general purpose" PC market?

Two Lan ports is very rare for any high end bored. What is the point anyway XD?

=____= It is not about beating Intel man, it is about being the best in what "AMD" wants to be. They normally rule the Main Stream and Gaming rigs. They do not have to flip over backwards to beat all of Intells enthusiasts grade Processors. AMD Just wants to rule the Mainstream/Gaming crowed, well that is fine by me
