Hi Guys I'm Patrick from New Zealand - the land of more expensive PC hardware

Been watching timetolivecustoms on YouTube for a while, I have not been around this site much and hope to change that (Adds to bookmarks).

I have been a builder for only around 10 years but it has been a hell of a ride so far;
starting with buying a second hand rig online with my nice and beefy 8600GT 512MB and a copy of Half-Life 2 all the way to my current rig..

MSI X99S SLI, 5820K, 16GB 3000mhz, 7970 Twin Frozr, 120GB SSD + 2TB Black.
- If people here can read the above line I must be in the right place :D:D

On the tech project front at the moment I'm more onto my home server which I am upgrading soon, I think I will post about that later.

And contrary to popular belief the internet down here is not that slow, my fibre connection gives me 100D 50U unlimited data. Its the ping you might get caught with going through the one underground cable to Australia and alot of stuff is hosted overseas, but sadly cant break light speed to make that faster.

tl.dr. Im Patrick aka SCUZNUTS, hope to be around more.

Welcome to the OC3D forums Patrick. If you think hardware is expensive where you are then you should try the UK we have taxes on our taxes then they want more taxes on top of that, then and only then can you own hardware. :(

Same kind of taxes apply when you import?

We have a nice rule of any electronic under $400 NZD will be exempt from GST.

Didnt have to pay GST for my 'Yamasaki' 27" 1440P IPS panel from ebay.
Cheap as chips and really nice panel.
- Chance of dead pixel on delivery though which is a gamble.

Wish we had that here

G'day and Welcome to OC3D everything Down Under is bloody expensive you only get cheap if you live North of the Equator

Hah yeah speaking of import prices.. my god I got hit with a 1,000NoK bill for purchasing from Aquatuning to import it into Norway. :(

I know how you Aussies feel when it comes to ordering something not available in your country. Worse still, I tried to send my brother some memory sticks for his pc from Norway back to the UK... it cost me £40 (400nok) to send them!

tl;dr
Import or Export, Norway shafts us. Its like they have taken a page out of the UK system somehow.

hehe I actually had the same thing happen with me. The difference being I moved the jump and moved to Norway to be with her. And here I am still going strong in a fantastic country. Hard to learn Norwegian though, since everyone is so keen to speak English to me :P

Thanks! :)
In the coming year/two I'm looking for a new card for the (hopeful) consumer Rift.
Also looking at removing mechanical drives from my PC with 2+ TB of SSD space.

Similar except my wife moved from the states to NZ. Happy times!
Would love to go to Norway sometime, looks beautiful there.

Chur, gidday Patrick!

I'm from NZ too! I can back up the shipping issues that you've underlined. It sucks because you can't even source a lot of gear directly in NZ due to our small market.

Although interestingly we are a good test market for a lot of new tech.
We also get things like new GFX cards or CPUs really quickly in stock with the main suppliers.
But things like watercooling or small/old bits are harder to come by.
