Getting used to widescreen...

Guys,

I've finally upgraded from my shameful 17" CRT to a 19" widescreen (didn't want to jump too much in size). However, the screen seems to give me a headache and is a bit disorientating. I use a 19" TFT (non-WS) at work, and it gives me no trouble.

I've tried adjusting brightness etc, but even when it's very dark it gives me the same problems.

Is this something anyone else has experienced moving to WS?

Do u have a WS TV ?

Yeah, but its across the other side of the living room.

The TFT feels like its straining my eyes because I cant see everything on the screen at once.

Nah, I was just wondering coz I had a fear of this b4 getting a ws monitor, but the transition was fine for me. I prehaps put it down to being used to watching ws tv, but that`s obviously not a factor.

Is it that prehaps the height of the screens of the 2 are throwing u ?

i had the same problem before, found out it was the distance im away from the screen.

i have a 20.1 WS @1680x1050

i used to sit 50-60cm away from it, and it makes my eyes water and red together with a cheap free hangover.

one day, i was watching a DVD on it, laid back with a drink, sat about 1m away from it, and my eyes didnt hurt, i didnt cry like a baby, and i didnt get a cheap hangover.

give it a try, might work

I found the same issues with my 2405W when I first used that....it left me feeling sick whenever I used it. Stick with it mate....a week or so and you'll find yourself scanning the screen more easily....without the nasty side-effects you mention!

yeah unfortunately I don't have much space to move it back by. I might be able to push it back another 6" or so. I'll give it a try.

post up a pic of your desk layout mate....will see how close u are sat then. My screen is close to me and I had the same problems when I first went WS.

It will go away after about a week or so mate. This happened really bad to me when I hopped from my 24" to my 30". I thought I was gonna hurl on the keys ;)

Give it some time, you'll warm up to it, has happened to me and I got over it. :)

Yeah, I got eye strain and head spins from my 19" Wide when I first got it.

But sooner or later it will disapear and when you sit and a normal screen (4:3), it will feel really distorted.

Good to know i'm not alone. Cheers lads. Wasn't looking forward to trying to convince ebuyer to take it back because it was making me ill!

I'll probably turn off all the vista flashing and fading effects too, wouldn't surprise me if they was attributing to my headaches.

But I need the rays!!!I've got a nice suntan going on my face!

suntan from radeation ....great

it took me a while to get used to 19" ...

what you have to do, is not focus on the whole screen, but focus on the bit you are using, so like, right now, i am looking at the box, where i am typing, the rest of the screen, i am paying no attention to...

treat it like a painting...a detailed one, you dont look at the whole thing, you select things, one at a time, and analyze them....its kinda like that

I went from a 19" tft to a 24" WS and loved it!

Man up! ;)

Make sure there are other sources of light in the room to avoid eye strain

ah, also, its best not to have lights next to your monitor, back of monitor, directly behind you....

the best lighting i've found is have lights inline to my left and right, mounted to the wall.
