Gaming Rig: GTX560?

Hi guys.

Ok,

I'm planning ahead for a "dream build" system and I want it's graphics card to pack a fair old punch for a fairly low(ish) price.

My original choice was two HD7750s in xfire and eventually an eyefinity setup, but after a TTL review, this disappeared. Now I'm thinking of having a GTX560 (eventually maybe SLI).

Come to think of it, I actually have two questions

Is eyefinity worth it for FPS or racing games and such?

Given today's range of cards, is it worth swapping the HD7750 out for a GTX560?

Thanks in advance

TC

What's your budget for the GPU?

Ideally I want it in the £100-200 band. For the time being, a price tag near or above the £200 mark is just scary!

I want it to run some of today's games at a reasonable framerate at either medium or high settings (if that helps)

Nowadays you can find GTX570's for around £200, you can also find GTX 560 TI 448's for under £200. You may also want to consider an AMD 7850

Is it worth getting one over the other? Or is it more down to preference?

Also would a 1250W power supply (OCZ) cope with one, possibly a WC loop, 16GB ram and an FX-6200 with room to spare?

1250W would be HUGE overkill for the rig. Also, avoid AMD Bulldozer and go Intel Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge. Also, OCZ PSU's are shit, i'd go with Enermax, Corsair, XFX, Seasonic, FSP or Be Quiet. (Just saying this in case you haven't purchased any of these yet).

As for the GPU's, the 7850 performs very similarly to the standard 560TI, while the 560TI 448 performs a bit faster, and the 570 a tiny bit faster than that. Overall then, all pretty similar performance between them all

Hmm...

I chose such a high power PSU to give me room for upgrades like 2-way SLI and a load of fans on top (be it air cooling, or air + a WC loop).

I also intend to overclock the CPU, so I have taken that into consideration as well.

For the price, I think I prefer the 560Ti.

Thanks for the help

That's a little concerning, considering my first build has an OCZ 750W in it. I realise now this is overkill for a FX-4170, 6770 plus a few fans, but it gives me room for upgrade and possibly more cooling. And I don't have to worry about PSU fan noise

At 850W, will it cope with the proposed setup?

GTX 560Ti in 2-way SLI, a WC loop over at least a 2500K (hopefully OC'd) plus any other case fans I might need. Oh and two HDDs and 16GB of ram.

I've decided to go for the GTX560Ti in (eventually) 2-way SLI. So not the GTX560Ti 448.

How would an 850W PSU cope with this kind of system on, say, full load? My concern is there won't be enough power and the system will crash

Trust me, there will be plenty of power for that system. Here's proof for you: http://www.guru3d.co...i-sli-review/14

Power consumption for 2 GTX 560 Ti's under 100% full load: 449W

CPU will use about 150-170W under 100% load with a reasonable OC, or just under 200W with a ridiculous one.

Fans use near no wattage

Ram & HDD's use a little bit of wattage too...

Estimated power usage with every component under 100% load would be just under 700W, and note that's with every component under maximum stress which never happens in real world conditions

560 Ti 2GB,damm thing rocks(used 2 in a build for a friend and got stupid fps on BF3 with them(his were the Frozor's)

Wow! Thanks for the link.

I presume the remaining 100W is more than enough for a watercooling loop or two?

(Can you tell I'm new to WC?

Will be plenty mate. Also don't forget that the figure above is with every component under full load, so you should have loads and loads of headroom in reality

just to help with the psu issue

i had (got rid of one) 2x 560ti's a 955 phenom oc'ed to 4ghz 16gb ram 3 HDD's and a total of 11 120mm fans (reduced now btw) and 3 lots of led's in my current rig all running off a 850W psu and still had head room for more components

If buying second hand and heat doesnt bother you I would get a gtx 480... Easy to run at 580 stock levels and you could always get a shaman cooler for for it.. All that would maybe cost the same as a new 560....

Bit if you do buy a 560 make sure you dont get the 336 shader version.. They look the same as the TI but have less shaders...
