Gaming PC under 300$

PS4 still has a FX8350 and a 7870 (effectively), that for $400 is a steal.
Hook it up to a monitor, sit in your chair and bam. Play some Killzone Shadow Falls (VIVA HOLLANDIA! DUTCH GAMES ROCK!!! <3 ) (I play most games with a controller anyway, except MOBA's and RTS.

a terribly restricted OS, no upgrade capabilities and terrible controls. can't use it for anything but gaming and even gaming isn't much of a pleasant experience on a console.
that's pretty much like being happy to get a porsche for half of what you usually pay but then only being able to use it on a racetrack and not having the right to modify it at all. not of much use when you want to go to town.

^^ You do have a point, allthough I don't really agree on the controls, that's personal. You either like a controller, or you don't. I'm used to it, so I love it :p
I do agree PC gaming is the master race, but on a low budget, the consoles (PS4, X-Bone sucks :p) is a fine alternative as a temporarily solution. My TV just broke, so I need a new one. This'll set me back big time, and I can't seem to find a job atm. So I'll get a PS4 first, and then continue my search for a job. Once I have a job, I'll get a nice PC :D

haven't watched television in 3 years. i would still go for the PC if i was you.
anyways, we are going off topic hard here.

^^ You are absolutely right, but we're paying extra per month for an extra decoder on my room and we're bound to it for 2 years (just got it recently too).
But back on topic indeed.

I have to say I agree with average ninja. On a budget of around $300 you will have a far more enjoyable experience on a console. Just wait and save up till you get to around $600 plus and you'll be far more likely to build something worthwhile.

The pc IS the master race but it don't come cheap let's be honest

IMHO either get a budget of around $600+ for a worthwhile investment(ability to upgrade down the road) or just get a console(PS4) for $400. But take this into consideration...If your family doesn't exactly come by extra money all the time(like millions of others) investing in mid to high end PC is a huge dent to the wallet and upgrading it over time once you get the money won't(possibly) be worth it. Most things will be outdated and or obsolete(most likely depending on how often you upgrade). Sure the things that aren't will be cheap but then again how does it perform at that current moment in time for the newest and latest games? Maybe not as much as you thought it should.. so a console would be perfect for you as it's a one time investment and you won't have to worry about it. I'm just basing this off the fact if you're family doesn't come by extra spending money often so if you do then disregard the previous information... If you are dead set on PC then you need to save money to make it even worth investing in. This is just my personal opinion on the matter.

Where abouts are you located? I can try to help by looking around in your general vicinity online. As could others no doubt.

It is tough but it can be done. There's online vendors yes but some other things like craigslist to consider.

I don't know the ps3 was hacked to run linux and with the system being x86 could be running it again in no time.

@op you could try and get some second hand items even then $300 is a low budget.

Wasn't hacked Sony just allowed it to run linux until the Slim came out(pretty sure).

300$ going second hand even then will be an immense task.

They removed Linux support and in the Lisence Agree. stated stuff that would not allow them to be sued under certain conditions and modifying console would allow them to sue. So they legally did it. The guy just did some codey stuff and hazah got linux on.

Consoles.. not even once.
btw why are you even suggesting PS4 if it exceeds his budget by 100 bucks lol
Even if he saved up for it, console games are typically ~50-60€ at least where I live..
I'm afraid $300 will get you nothing at all. You have to be realistic dude. $300 will hardly get you a netbook.
Unless you plan on playing Solitaire..

Very true I made a system a little over his budget (a few dollars)

Athlon x3
4 gb ram
6670

couldn't even get an operating system.

I'm going to assume you cant work yet so that's why your asking your parents for money, if this is indeed the case you should either wait till your older and get a job or get a job now if you have jobs younger people do like paper routes and that or even charge people 30 bucks for car washes lol.

If I was you I would stay away from wanting to build a PC when price/time is right and you have enough moolah.
