Display goes when gaming

Hi,

I have just build a new system with the following specs:

Intel i7 8700
Asus Maximum ROG X
16 GB 3200 DDR4
Kraken X52 AIO
650w Seasonic Prime Gold Power Supply

I carried over the 970 GTX from my old system while I wait and see what will happen with the 1070 Ti

In the old system everyone works fine but I am having some issues with the new build and I am hoping that someone with better hardware knowledge than me can help.

During normal usage the PC is fine, quick and generally great. But when gaming, for no apparent reason both monitors go into power saving mode at random intervals and never come back. The PC doesn't crash, or bluescreen as far as I can tell it stays responsive but both monitors loose their feed. When this happens I have tried to plug one of the cables into the internal adapter but still get nothing.

I have also tried:

Checking all the temps
Reinstalling Windows
Running 3d Mark
Stress test on the CPU
Checking everything is connected
Disabled hibernation and powersaving etc

In all my stress tests it seems to work fine, it's only when I start gaming that I have the problem and it's really annoying. Can anyone help send some light on what might be the cause of the issue as I am stumped. Next start is to start buying new bits one by one and see what fixes it.

For some reason I suspect my GPU and most of the time when the monitors loose their feed and the add remove hardware sound pings the default sound device changes from my sound card to one of my monitors.

Any advice would be great as I am not sure where to go from there.

Thanks in advance.

if you get that sound made when you add new usb device, could be your cable connection is not secure. possibly damaged pin? or faulty cable.

Its like Windows is recognising a new screen. When it does that, it could be thinking the new phantom screen is your main one, and sets the 2 you have now as secondary.

In full screen gaming mode, secondary screens are usually set to black screen. Test your games in windowed mode and see if it still occurs.

Cheers, I checked the power options and they are all good. Nothing goes to sleep ever.

Windowed mode is a good idea I will give that a shot, as well as check my connections to the monitors. In the game I am playing the second screen remains on normally displaying whatever was on it at the time I loaded the game. When this problem happens both screen disconnect at the same time.

I am also going to try the onboard GPU and see if it happens on that as well, but no way I can handle that frame rate for long. I purchased a 1070 just in case its a GPU problem but I am hoping it isn't so I can send the 1070 back and wait for the 1070Ti or the next gen NVidia cards.

The 1070 I bought works fine in the new build so thats good. What is interesting is that 970 works fine as well when I transferred it to the old build. Odd, but at least it's sorted now.
