Basically i'm in a bit of a dilema as to whether i should phase change my current rig or go out and buy a new rig and save the phase change for another time.....

Try to cast aside your AMD/Intel biases, and tell me what you'd rather have:

Numero Uno:

DFI Lanparty 875P-T AGP/DDR

P4 560J 3.6ghz - Phase changed to 5ghz+ish

XFX 6800GT AGP

Prometeia Mach II GT

Numero Dos:

DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-D PCI-E/DDR

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego - Stock cooling

XFX 6800GT PCI-E

Standard AMD cooling (or Xp-120) for 4 or so months and then maybe phase change...

I'm a big AMD supporter, but dumping that current machine would be retarded. It'll be worth it to phasechange a P4 at 5ghz+. Buying a new san diego and rest would be a waste of money right now. Wait for next nvidia/ATI card and the X2 before building your extreme AMD machine. Numero uno all the way.

That was a tough decision and I now wanna go back on it an say buy the New kit. Your Intel setup is pretty good but futurewise you'll be better off with two. Gaming will be better off with No. 2 as well......but Phase changing that P4 to above 5GHz would be legendary!

Tough.... :o

I've decided...go for AMD!!

I chose option number one for the reason that I believe you would get the most benefit at the moment from your current rig. Kempez comments are also valid as far as future proofing, but I tend to agree with vice...wait for the next wave of go fast bits and maybe go the AMD avenue :)

I chose option number 2... but, I think you'd be better suited with a 4000+ Diego so that when you get your phase change you'll have that good multi to work with. A 3.5+ghz Diego will whoop a 5+ghz P4 up and down the street.

Yeah I think it would do actually.

XMS go on....surely you want a new challenge? Get that Diego! :amd: :worship:

phase change the intel to 5GHz :) then that way ull stay well ahead of pack for a while (nuff time to save for a nu rig) and ull have a phase change cooler for future use; and given u no loger have a W/C setup that AMD will be good only for a while

Gah, decisions decisions.

So far the way i see it is this:

Numero Dos Positivies:

* Exposure to an AMD system

* Buying a highly overclockable chip (i hope)

* Future proof for PCI-E

* Future proof for dual core (hopefully)

* Amazing motherboard (4v on vdimm without any mods!!!)

Numero Dos Negatives:

* Running for ages on Air cooling

* Might not be as fast as a P4 running at 5ghz +

Numero Uno Positives:

* Will have phase change already purchased for any future rigs

* Will be able to run at 5ghz maybe higher

* No fussing around selling stuff

* I know my rig works, and works well

* Bragging rights about phase change

Numero Uno Negatives:

* Current board may not take newgen cards

* Board probably wont support dual core (but may be faster at 5ghz neway),

Damn yep...that's all the stuff I was thinking. Phase change is drool-like but if you can afford the AMD system then getb the phase change as wel later on...oh I dunno....

Maybe ask yourself if you play enough games to warrant buying a new AMD/PCI-E system?

Kempez....IYO, do i play enough games?

I might just see if i get any interest in my current rig for the price i'm asking, and if not, then i'll just go phase change...

You answered your own question XMS!! If I play enough games to warrant doing an upgrade next year, then I'm damn sure you do!! :)

The diego is nice, but if you're gonna go amd, get something that will annihilate that P4, like the X2. Also don't buy another 6800 in pci express, waste of money. Wait for a 32 pipe R520. Option 2 is just a mini upgrade, you need to take it all the way.

Good answer! You'd be super 1337 with a phase Diego down the road... You know u want to do it!!!

phase change! you have waited AGES for phase change on this rig and so getting a worse system (compared to his 5ghz+) would just be a step backwards!! also at least wait for a new gfx card to come out before buying. seriously i just see this as a step backwards where you have the same computer as about 3 million others in the world. phase change will make you 1337!!

btw the new emoticon is indeed ausgezeichnet. (hehe i know german)

Worse system? wtf u talkin about Dave? That fuckin Diego system would fucking SCREAM. And when it gets phased say buhbye to the 5+ghz P4!

A 5ghz P4 would probably beat a 3700+ stock. He said he's not planning on ocing for a while so it would be a downgrade. A 5 ghz oc does make you pretty elite(feels wrong spelling it right). Going from agp 6800 to pcix 6800 is retarded too. Unless you're gonna by a X2 4400+ and a R520, don't get a new setup.

Wait a minute....now Jim wouldn't go and do a thing like not OC it would he? Are you mad?????

But I do agree in principle! :)
