Freeing up space on the SSD.

Hey guys.

I've heard that ssd's can have a bit of space free up but unsure how.. Is it from turning hibernation mode off? If it's the case is there any disadvantages of doing this? Any other methods of freeing up some space?

Cheers

Well, this isn't dependent on the SSD, so much as the OS. Yes, in windows you can disable hibernation and delete the file if you want, that free's up space. You can also play with System Restore settings, Pagefile, etc...

There's loads of general system stuff to tweak for space, hibernation file is one of them (if you never use it, there's no sense having a hiberfile the size of your ram). Pagefile can be reduced to 1.5GB if you have 4~8gb of ram usually, turn off system restore, turn off indexing, turn off superfetch etc.

There's loads of stuff you can do to help with space, but it's not all related directly to SSD's they only start to slow down above 85% usage really..

Ended up clearing a bit of space. Do you guys only have Windows on the ssd? Whats preferred with the location of games and programs?

Cheers.

I install most of my programs on the SSD drive - I install all my Game installs (which now adays can reach multi GB on mechanical drives. I have two 7200RPM drives in Raid0 for that.
