Fractal Modding Competition

I already have a mould to use for the resin Solo, so will actually be around 3-5 mm protrusion from the case.

If you dont mind me asking, How does the bonding process work? I would imagine sticking resin mould to a plastic surface would not be an easy job?

If you dont mind sharing, do let us know how you do it.

I have submitted a build pitch but the reply needs approving before its visible on here, I hope its approved before tomorrow if that's the end date.

Thanks

I never mind sharing how I do stuff. 1st off I will be using a polyurethane resin to create the Solo relief. Since my last edit to my post, this will be mounted behind the front panel (hole cut to frame the relief), this will lead to it needing to be bonded to plastic. There are 3 main options for this. 1st option is a UV cured acrylic, these are great as you can build up and repair as well as use for joining. 2nd is to use an epoxy to bond, biggest issue with this is it often requires a fairly sized gap between mating surfaces for the epoxy to fill. Last option is to use a glass fibre compound to build up around the relief and effectively hold it securely in place that way.
Personally I will probably use a UV cured acrylic. It's quick and easy to work with, also does not have "melting" issues with other plastics that cyanoacrylate glues do.

Define Skylake S

Hi, I'm James from Darkwood Systems.

This would be a great opportunity for me to be able to show case what I can do and the quality of work I produce. I would honoured to be considered for this opportunity by TinyTomLogan and Fractal Design.

I like my builds to be clean and subtle, focusing on a professional look with quality design and components. My idea is a white on black build with simple but bold uses of the white to lead you around the build to the different components and features, using white coolant in the pipe work and white braided cables managed around the case.

Component List:

CPU - Intel Core i5-6600k
AIO - Fractal Design Kelvin S36
MoBo - Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151
RAM - Kingston HyperX Fury Black DDR4 16GB (White if Available)
SSD - Samsung 850 EVO 120GB
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD
GPU - Water Cooled GTX 970 Strix OC using EK full cover water block and back plate
PSU - Corsair RM 750w 80+ Gold

Extras:

White Individually Sleeved PSU Cables
10 x EK Nickel Compression Fittings
2 x EK Nickel 90 degree adaptors
EK-RES X3 250
PrimoFlex Clear Tubing
Mayhem Pastel Ice White Liquid
LED Lighting strips

Fractal Bundle:

Case - Define S Case
AIO - Kelvin S24
Fans - Venturi Series HP-12 PWM fans

Interior:

I want to follow Fractal Design Scandinavian design and quality for the Interior, so I will be removing the drive cages, bays out of the case to improve air flow as well as moving the SSD and HDD round the back using the cases mounting points.

I have chosen an Asus Z170-A for its overclocking socket and its white theme using a i5 6600k overclocked, Kingston HyperX Fury Black DDR4 16GB, I'm hoping to put white ram in but will have to see if that gets released in time, otherwise I will be using white Ballistic ram and removing the camo stickers from the heat spreaders to give a cleaner look.

To go with the i5 6600k I want to put an Asus 970 strix graphics card in with a full cover EK water cooling block that is clear so you can see the coolant and a EK back plate to go in the AIO loop, alongside this I will be using a Samsung 850 EVO 120GB SSD for the OS and software and then a Barracuda 1TB HDD to install games and media on. All this will be powered by a Corsair RM 750w 80+ Gold PSU with white individually sleeved PSU Cables.

I want to take advantage of fractals expandable AIOs (s36 and s24) and case which is designed for water cooling but I didn't want to just add a GPU into the loop and be done with it.

My idea starts with adding Fractals S36 radiator into the loop for added cooling but not stopping there with the design of the cooling loop. I will be taking the AIOs apart to add in clear piping with slight pipe size increase using 11/13mm clear tube with new EK nickel fitting on all the components. Then I want to use Pastel white coolant around the loop to tie in with the white and black theme using the EK GPU block and an EK-RES X3 250 reservoir to show off the coolant and use the cases built in mounting design for reservoirs. All of this will be lit up by white LED lighting to show off the loop, coolant, and components. =

Exterior:

The Define S is a great case and has smooth clean lines with Fractal Design Scandinavian design and quality. I didn't really want to start cutting it apart making something completely different when it’s such a nice case to start with. My plans are to add a vinyl pattern on the case sides flowing around the case using white vinyl stripped patterns I have designed below to tie in with the white and black theme of the build. This will add to the case to make it a unique and one off design.

Concept Designs:

These designs may change and be improved on the case.

All the parts for this build will be brand new and if I get the opportunity I would like to be able with the help from TinyTomLogan and Fractal Design to offer this as a prize to a lucky winner in December.

Thanks again for the opportunity TinyTomLogan and Fractal Design.

I'm going to build a removable shroud to cover the power supply and wiring with slots cut out for wires to feed through and edging to make it clean. I'm also looking at getting Darkwood Machined into the side too. I will also be adding serial numbers and codes to the case vinyl's to give its more industrial feel.

Thanks

So here goes, i'm putting myself forward for this project as the hardware in my current rig “nothing special”, is more than enough to put together a kick-a** gaming pc. As I was in such a rush the first time I didn’t do the best possible job, now knowing what i do from the forum and with the continuous help from other OC3D members I think we can build "Something Special”

I want to take the opportunity to make things neater, take a little more time over it and pay attention to the details with the red and white theme of the build.

Having the fractal and the pressure of a wider audience seeing the build will make what I physically do feel more important, adding value/priority to the aesthetics will give me more pride in my work and the rig itself.

As I spend more time on the forums reading then replying to others, I will be learning to do some new things, some custom sleeving, perhaps rigid tubing and pay more attention to photography. JR23 has very generously offered to help in any way he can.

The build itself: i'm thinking of a dual loop with two 10w ddc's stacked at the front with a 360mm rad on each loop, but if you guys think that would look too busy or messy then how about a single loop with a EK-XRES 140 D5 Vario with a 250ml tube replacement, what do you guys think?

Specs:

Asus Sabertooth Z87
Intel i7 4770k
HyperX 16gb (4x4gb red and white)
2 x EVGA gtx 980's
Samsung 850 Pro 256gb SSD
Hitachi 2TB HDD
Fractal Define S
Corsair HXi1000

Cooling so far:

2 x EK-FC 980 gtx acetal nickel with backplates
EK-FC Terminal DUAL Parallel 3-Slot
EK Water Blocks EK-CoolStream PE 360

Project Arashikage - Snakes Eyes Build

This would be a brother build to my current Arashikage - Storm Shadow build which is an all white Define R5 build.

Arashikage - Snake Eyes will be a very powerful Intel Skylake based gaming build powered by a number of Fractal Design components.

The color scheme is black, grey and red and will have an underlying Military/GI Joe theme.

Here are some photoshoped images of what I plan to create.

This is my previous build and current gaming machine Arashikage - Storm Shadow. It's complete besides the photoshoped decals. I'll be hopefully finishing those and adding some elements such as custom sleeved cables (already received), all white fans and replacing pretty much any and everything that isn't white in the build.

And YES the ninja swords are real!

I think these systems will look amazing next too each other. I plan to change living room area (I don't really use it very much) into a LAN area for me and my friends to play games together. Hopefully about 4-6 stations. These two systems would have a table and side of the room all to there selves.

Ive picked out a couple of 100% deadcerts for the bundles so congratulations to Killbane and Wraithgaurd.

We still have 3 spots up for grabs and we will anounce the final 3 on Monday so you have time to add to / edit your current entries.

SrgntBallistic - really like the snake eyes theme the only thing that is holding me back is the fact that you are such a new member and we have not actually seen any of your work in any build logs etc here...... (location isnt an issue because Fractal are sorting the shipping)

Yup - we still have 3 more spots though but I know I want you two in the running and it gives the others some fuel for the fire!

Aye, time is short on this one. Just ordered the fittings I need will be out tomorrow to get the rest of the materials :) Dremel at the ready.

Tried to update my entry with some pictures but it keeps erroring out and not letting me do it. Womp womp :(
