Hey, with my previous pc I had a huge dust problem as there were no filters. The psu sucked in a lot of dust, so much that the bearing broke (don't know if it is true).

To prevent this with my new pc I needed dust filters. Parents didn't want to spend more money on me so I looked at a cheaper way.

I came across a range of things you can do for free to increase performance and sustainability.

I came up with a threat where guys could share their knowledge on how to improve your pc for free (software or hardware):
Ill start:
1. I saw someone using pantyhose to filter his pc and it actually worked.

(So here you guys can share your FREE improvements with possible links. Would like to learn more tips and tricks as it is highly beneficial)

I used tights (pantyhose) to filter some of the mesh of my case that came without filtering. It works nicely :)

I wouldn't use my underwear to filter my fans, Would probably kill the fans lol ^_^
Lol, if only you had evidence to show death fans. Works nicely and cleanly.

I did mine on the side as that vents meant nothing and used the filter of the case to put over my psu as it also suck in air.

Will post pics in 2-3 months to show how it work

Excellent idea, I'm looking at re meshing the front panel of the 450D, while the mesh is ok it's quite gappy, it needs to be much finer, and I really should filter the rear as it's a intake, when I stripped her yesterday it looked like a snow globe floor.

Tell me about it but that's a thing of the past for me. What's great about this idea is that, you get it in different colors :p and you can use it with your current mesh.

I would be wary of using nylon stockings for such a purpose. Having nylon material in such close proximity to a rotating plastic fan blade is highly likely to cause a large static build-up which, if not handled with great care, could easily cause components to get fried.

How will it come in contact with the components? and why didn't it happen with the others?

Had similar problem :
I was cleaning my case fans when bad hand move forced dust inside ballbearing space.
Fan never worked like before :(

But my solution was quite different than yours :
Instead of "upping" dust filters, I changed all case fan's for ones that use flux/nano bearings.

Basicly : If dust goes inside, I can demount fan (example : LINK) and put it back when im done :)
It is more expensive solution, but (for me) more futureproof ;)

The current pc has no problem, that's why I prevent dust from entering rather than wait until that time.
It is dust free and the only fan was the psu that broke. I need to replace the psu.

OK. So U only need to get positive in case air-presure, and some good filters on intake fans.
Tip : Cloth with dense fabric can block airflow (instead of just restricting it), so be careful what you use for "hand made" dust filter.

I have front intake with the case filter. Side intakes with pantyhose filter and back intakes with pantyhose. The 2 top exhaust has no filters. Cloth is too thick. Pantyhose allow air in but keep dust out. The right mesh (red) turns white when it block dust. Will look at the results after 3-4 months. And if it did more bad than good, i'll look at alternatives.

Plastic card , make a frame cut the holes you require for 120 / 140 ect stretch ladies tights glue in place , when the glue has dried ,trim the excess , for a budget these do work .
