does anyone on here fish?

im asking because my old man want to go fishing again since it was more than 30 years since his last go.

sooooo.....as his good son:D :D :D i said i'll look into it for him, because......his memory of fishing gear is a rigid metal rod, a reel, line with hook and LIVE worms........he has never heard of fake lures, carbon lines, carbon rods and fishing license! LOL:D

so when i presented to him with webpage of a million different rods/poles/reels/lures/lines/hooks......his face went a bit pale:D

TBH, i dont know what im looking at neither, and searching on google didnt help me one bit.

anyone with experience can point me in the right direction?

we are mainly looking at fishing in lakes, sometimes out to sea

cheeeeeers!

I don't fish, but have mates who do.

Your best bet is the local tackle shop, they normally know whats best, and where.

Simple? No.

Boring? Yes!

Try the yellow pages, or a local newsagents, and pickup a fishing Mag.. surely there will still be shops somewhere.

unfortunately big etailers have done for fishing what they have to many small shops in other fields - offered wider ranges at considerably lower prices & put them out of business.

& along with that went the chance to physically handle stuff as well as get some advice ...

Where are you?

Perhaps there is a local fishing club that you can contact.

I used to go fishing. I didn't think you needed a license unless you were fishing in a public type lake?

If you go to a fishery I think you can just fish and pay for the fish. I'm pretty sure that's what we used to do :). Altho we had too many trout so moved onto carp fishing and putting them back.

I used to use live bait, mainly maggots. If you put them in your mouth they get lively and attract the fish more.

OMG! thats insane! just imagine one going down your throat :D lol

I've gone fishing a few times with my friend Matt. It's fun, relaxing, etc. Go down to the river shore, start a fire to keep the bugs away, set up the chairs and find some sticks that have a Y shape at the end to hold your pole while you wait. It's fun :)

a quick glance on some sites, its now called a 'Rod license'? now sure what that is.....need to check it out, might be to go with something like each Rod need one license or something....

so what kind of Rods is needed? get 1 Pole, and 1 'Match Rod'? theres so many different Rods im not sure what is what......mmmmmm aim for Bigger is Better?

just spent a good 30mins in Tesco flicking through a fishing mag, didnt really say the difference between all these different Rods things.

Shimano stuff anygood?

what sort of fishing you plan on doing?

anything from a nearby lake to fishing out at sea.

mainly aiming for 2lbs+ catch, would go out to sea to try catching sea bass, hook some squids(my old man must be smoking something....is it possible to 'fish' squids??????).

but i guess mainly will be in nearby lakes catching carp......

ah! i remember a couple years ago, i played around with my mates Rods, it was about 11ft long, whole thing is made in carbon fibre, he said he uses it for most fishing from 1lbs to 5lbs catch, anything bigger he uses another one....

maybe i should look for one thats made in carbon???
