first time water cooling need advice

i just ordered my asus 670 and i plan on running a dual rad loop in my 500r, 360 in the front and a 280 on the top

i havent really looked too much into the top rad as of yet im looking at a max of 30mm thickness

my really only question is what pump should i get? i want the quietest pump that has the right power for my loop... a bayres pump combo jawn is out because the 360 is going to take up my entire front

dual rad a cpu and possibly 2 video cards (only one for atleast a year)

the res i picked i dont want anything fancy just something that holds water and isnt too big or too small

any help on parts would be great thanks guys
 
man I dont think you'll have much room for a pump and rez after a 360 and 240mm rad installion lol. I'd look at pumps you can get a rez top for and see what spacing you think you mght have left for one.

I'm with S_I_N here too, defo do some space planning. As for a pump I'd recommend a PWM D5 or DDC 18w. Both are powerful enough to run what you need but the D5 will have rpm control so you can make it quieter. The specs on the pump you listed look fine.

is what S_I_N is suggesting (although you can get similar tops for different pumps). It's pretty compact like that.
 
as far as room goes i have loads actually, the res i linked will fit right over my cable management holes and i have the whole area next to the powersupply (22mm x 16mm area) because i put my ssds on back of the motherboard tray and my hdd ontop of my psu with loads of velcro, ill look into those pumps. thanks guys

You said fitting a 360mm rad in a 500R?

Some how i dont see that being possible unless you mod the case signifcantly. Also concider the res and pumo location as well. as for pumps MCP35X never had an issue with one.

Hmmmmm.

Idea mate. Mode you case a bit. Cut a square about 70mm wide in the bottom of the optical bay aslip the rad through it and mount it to the from fans.

Just saying.
 
the optical bay floor is already gone since i already put my h100 in the front, the 360 will fit fine all i have to do i cut the bottom of the case alittle more to slide the rad throught because the rad sticks out a few mm... your the second person to recommend the [font="Verdana, sans-serif, FreeSans"]mcp35x, its really that good of a pump? that whole heatsink thing looks alittle ugly, ill post up a pic of the inside of my case in alittle bit so you can see how much room i actually have (its alot)[/font]
 
The heatsink isn't really necessary. But if you want silence you'll need to decouple the pump from your case, to avoid transferring vibration.

The MCP35X is a version of the Laing DDC pump, one of the most-used pumps for watercooling. What's nice about it is that it comes with good-performance top already installed, and that it has PWM control.
 
Oh good someone watercooling a 500r I was planning to do it to mine and it was about the way you're doing it. I'm pretty sure a 280 in the top won't fit. You will have to do with a 30mm thick 240 rad, I'd recommend the alphacool ST240 as it is all copper and will give the best performance for a slim rad. Cutting the floor shouldn't have to happen, pop the front bezel off and drop the 360 in through that. As for mounting the pump, I'm guessing you're going to simply slide the bottom optical bay forwards to fit the 360 in just mount the pump on top of that. Be sure to use antivibration padding or you may get some vibration my HDD bay wasn't fully tightened to the case and it caused massive whirring vibrations throughout the case and went away after I tightened it fully.

For the rez you can probably fit that right behind the 360 rad in the optical bays.
 
So, your plan is to run a 360 and a 240mm rad, for one gpu and a cpu...

its a lot of hardware for not a lot of heat to get straight to the point. the 360 will keep one 680 and a sb@5ghz cool. from experience. I dont mean to tell you what to do,it is your rig and you only asked about the pump so fyi I use two D5's. I have used them both for apprx 9months on 4 and 5 settings,5max, and have had no trouble what so ever. I use the EK D5 pump heads with the mounting plates and double sided tape on the bottom floor of my 800D. Also, I run 3 580s which are much hotter than the 680 or whatever it is your getting.I use a 140 and a 120 in series with 2x3000rpm fans on the 120, and 2x87cfm case fans and run cooler than a single 360mm I initially had them running through. In bf3 60degrees C was the max temp on the 360mm, with the 140-120 loop I have them in now, 55 would be the absolute highest I see in bf3, running 5760x1080 so im really generating some heat. One rad is on the outside of the rear exhaust port of the case and you can DEFINITELY feel warmth in the rad. but I guess thats just the rad doing its job nice and efficient like, I have the 360 on the 2600k and mobo blocks,gpu's exit into the ram before continuing on.
