First time OC an Intel CPU

Ok so I have watched the 1155 overclocking guide more times than I can remember, and I have OC'd on the AMD side of things a bit, I am just wanting to know of anything I should keep in mind with Intel's Devils Canyon overclocking, is I am sure I heard it can be quite the pain in the ass.

Right I am currently into what will hopefully be my final stress test on OCCT, I just have two questions to ask. Firstly I am at 4.6ghz at 1.226v and my hottest core sits at 66°c sometimes jumping to 68°c, am I right in assuming under 70°c is best on a stress test? Also is 8 to 9 hours a good time to run my final test or should I run longer? The test is a linepack 90% memory usage test btw.

what are the fans at? Id set them piss slow and aim for under 80 but know those CPU's youll hit a wall with the clocks before the temps......

I have the fans linked to the cpu temp Guv, so when the cpu isn't pushed they're quite as a mouse, an even when the cpu is stressed they're no where near their top speed. I am currently 2 hours into my OCCT test an the max temp has been 67 on one core, the volts are at 1.226v an the core is clocked at 4.6ghz. I think she could do more, but 4.6ghz with the temps not touching the 70°c, an the volts below 1.250v is a pretty good spot to be at. Do you think an 8 hour OCCT test will suffice or should I leave it longer than that?
 
Looks like a decent OC to me, no need to push it more if you don't want to but there is some left in the tank for the future if you ever decide on it.

Stability is relative to what you use the rig for. 8 hours should be way more then enough for general usage and gaming. There are better ways of judging stability - personally I know that if I setup my system to pass something like OCCT 30 mins and then add 0.02v to the vCore I'm all set for what I use the system for; which is in my case general desktop usage, gaming and video rendering. Saves me stress testing for hours but of course it's a short cut.

It failed after 2 hours an 40 mins unfortunately, I am not quite sure why either as there was no vdroop and it doesn't look like it was the ram either

You might as well ignore vdroop on Haswell and DC. It's not something you need to worry about and neither is the LLC since the voltage regulator is now on die and sits between the BIOS and the cores. Leave LLC on auto if you've played with it.

To be honest you are probably short of vCore. You've got a good volt to frequency ratio so I think you'll just need to bump the core voltage a little if you want more stability. Having said that, do you need more? Have you had any issues using your PC for anything at these settings? I'd be inclined to just the PC as is. If you get any strange behaviours like hangs or program crashes then add another 10mv but I'd suggest trying it as is for now.

No it didn't have any issues running stuff, just OCCT failed after nearly 3 hours for no real reason at all.
