Hey,

I will be honest i've never built a PC before but my current one is getting old, so decided i'm going build one as i hate all the junk that comes pre-installed on most new PC's you buy

Anyway i need help please

I use the computer daily for work and there normally left on for days at a time, run multiple software applications that do alot reading and writing of mostly txt files

Always have other softwares open to like photoshop, programming IDE, custom exe files running day to day jobs and other multi threaded softwares etc...

Would like 16gb memory

Dont need monitors have these but needs to support dual monitors

Dont need keyboard or mouse

Hard drive dont need to be huge as most files for work projects are stored on a external hard drive

Just really need help and advice with out it i just know i'll end up with parts that hate each other

Budget around £1000 Dont matter to much if its more

Any advice would be a great help

Cheers

Processor - Intel 3770k - if you want to save money you could get away with a 3570k, it shouldnt make a lot of difference

Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3

Power Supply - Minimum of 500w, preferably corsair. Look for the cheapest, but dont spend under £50

RAM - 1600mhz - either corsair vengeance, G-Skill or Mushkin

Graphics card - a GTX 560ti should do the job fine for you on dual monitors. Most would say thats overkill, but if you have quite a big budget, you may as well.

Case: Up to you, whatever you like the look of. Make sure you get a proper brand like coolermaster though, not any crap make like casecom cause it will only fall apart. I'd advise spending around £50 - the antec 300/302 series and the antec one are probably good options.

I'd recommend getting a 128gb Crucial M4 SSD over a hard drive, although your budget allows both - if you do everything externally anyway, you may be able to get away without a proper hard drive for data, but if you want one, get a Western Digital Caviar Green.

I'd also say get an aftermarket cooler, dont spend more than £30 though cause it isnt really necessary.

That system should easily cut the grand line, probably around 600/700 even, and that is probably overkill for what you need. But it will be more futureproof so i'd recommend it.

My suggestion would be as follows

Windows 7 Professional oem £103.99

Fractal Design Define R3 Black Pearl Mid-Tower USB 3.0 Case £66.99

Corsair TX650M £77.98

LG CH10LS28.AUAR Blu-Ray Drive £47.98

MSI Z77A-GD65 £144.99

Intel Core i7-3770K £249.99

Corsair 16GB (4 x 4GB) Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz DIMM 240-pin CL9 LP £72.99

Crucial 128GB M4 SSD £86.98

Just any quiet cooler really. no point in spending 60 quid on one if you arent overclocking. a cm 212 evo would do a sterling job

Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo £25.64

Gainward GeForce GTX 670 915MHz 2GB PCI-Express 3.0 HDMI £329.98

Delivery Cost £1.98

Sub total £1209.49

and with £65 Discount

Total £1144.49

hope this is of some help to you

What? why would he need a 670 if he isnt playing games? a 560ti will cut it perfectly, and even that's overkill.

Also, why the d14 when he probably isnt overclocking?

CPU - I would personally try and get a 3930k cpu on a MOBO - msi x79 gd45. There is no need for a powerful gpu like the 670 - the vast majority of your workload is going to be done on the cpu so that's where you need to spend your money. Picture editing doesn't require CUDA cores so much so there is no need to get one of those ridiculous cards. Any mid range gpu will handle the workload and 2 screens. A 560 is probably a good bet, or a 7770. If you were video editing then you'd need something more powerful. Personally I'd get a 7850 because of the performance/power consumption if it fits the budget (but this is not a priority in my opinion).

Any 16gb of RAM with 1600mhz speed will suit. Don't pay through the tooth to get anything over 2000Mhz, it won't make that much difference. I'd probably look for 1866.

PSU - a corsair tx650 or, if you OC the cpu, you should be fine with a tx850w.

Storage - get an SSD for the OS and programs (60-120gb is probably enough - just need to put your programs on it).

Fast HDD - most of your content is going to be loaded from an HDD since you probably have tons of images and you'll spend £1000s trying to get enough SSD space to fit them all on their. Get WD caviar Black HDDs - they are the fastest storage around and you can get 2tb for £150. I know you store this externally but using a internal HDD will speed things up.

That will come to £1000-1300 depending on your choices.

Well I think you've got it spot on

personally i would recommend a core i3 bundle from aria they include 8gb ram but you can ask them to add 16gb then a low profile gpu would be perfect for an office system
