Hi,
so I'm building my first PC
parts planned so far...

Case: Fractal Node 804
MoBo: Asus Maximus VIII Gene
CPU: Intel 6700K ( I may overclock in the future)
CPU cooling: Corsair H115i
GPU Nvidia 1080 - probably the Asus Strix
Storage: Samsung 950 PRO M.2 256GB for the OS - WinX
Storage: Samsung 850 PRO 2.5" 1TB SATA III for Steam
Storage: WD Blue 4TB Desktop HDD for all the rest
Memory: G.SKILL TridentZ Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4 3400
PSU: Corsair RM650i
maybe some more fans if needed.

Thats the plan
I would like to know if anything looks wrong.
Is the PSU up to the job?
Is the RAM ok is there a better option?
anything I have missed?
my first build so any advice is greatly appreciated

Thanks

You won't really need 32GB of ram 16 will probably be more than enough and I'd probably go with a 750 watt power supply in case you might want a second GPU further down the track but if you are sticking with one the the one you have picked is good
Everything else looks great enjoy your build!

Seeing as how expensive this build is, budget is obviously fairly loose, so i'd really advise looking at X99 over Z170 if you can. The 6850k and a motherboard such as Asus X99-M WS, EVGA X99 Micro 2, or Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5. I think it would be worth the upgrade from Z170 and shouldn't be to much more. More cores and PCI Lanes should you ever decide for another 1080

No problem. As the build you originally posted, it's perfectly fine but only thing I would change is the 32GB to 16GB.

But X99 was a personal suggestion on my part. I had the same dilemma recently between Z170 and X99. I went with Z170 because I couldn't find any good priced itx 99 boards and got a 6700k cheap. But in hindsight, I would have rather spent that little bit more for X99. Just better all around imo

Possibly look at a larger PSU should you ever decide you want SLI in future, if not the RM650i is more than sufficient for your chosen build. As for memory it all depends on what you are intending to use the build for? There is nothing wrong with having 32GB of RAM if you are doing large image, 3D or video renderings or you fancy yourself a meaty RAM Disk, if not you'd be more comfortable with a healthy 16GB.

I had not thought of the X99 option.
but I am definitely looking into it!
So more RAM isnt better or the gains just not worth the cost?

thanks for the ideas and advice
