Firefox 4.0

Just read some gadget magazine thing on a bus ride home. Saw a little snippet that said about Firefox 4.0:

Firefox has obviously been shown Google Chrome and been told; be more like that.

As a chrome user, it tickled me a bit. However, I can see this becoming the norm from now on in the computer world, Google develop a killer product, everyone copies it, Google product is undercut.

Shame really.

I dont think your thinking it through correctly. If the public say they like a certain product in a certain way, your not gonna turn around and make it completly different. You make it similar and improve upon it.

A very valid point there. Maybe I should of said that someone has a great idea, then everyone else mooches off it for a bit. I don't understand why they don't just come up with their own, better idea.

Have to understand: Google has merely done exactly the same to Firefox. FF has been out many more years than Chrome.

Why is everyone forgetting that?

Was literally just gonna say that same thing after reading this Matt.

In what way didn't Google just take most of the best bits of FF with Chrome and just add a few extra bits?

Don't get me wrong.. I quite like Google and Chrome but it isn't like they've revolutionzed the browser or stepped it up and the way that FF did.

Probably should tell you that I hate FF then if that makes it easier, I could just never get on with it, reminded me of safari too much. Another browser I didn't like.

Will definitely be trying FF 4.0 though, I see it as a two horse race in the browser world (for sensible people anyway) Chrome or FF. Who makes FF anyway?

lol, i'm sensible and i'm using IE8. Does what i ask of it... havent had any problems with it. I dont notice any speed difference.

although i do have FF and Chrome installed, just dont use them.

Lol I noticed a speed difference straight away when I went to Chrome. I like minimalistic stuff anyway, I think that is what is most appealing.

Firefox is made by Mozilla.

Don't get me wrong.. I like Chrome.. Tis a very good browser. But I still mainly use Firefox.

The add-ons are what makes Firefox as good as it is, really innovative and new. MS, Google and anyone sensible have copied Firefox.

anyway, I'll be trying FF 4.0 :)

Chrome and Safari are almost identical!?

I recently switched to chrome as I stated in an older thread. To be honest, I'm thinking about trying FF again. Something about Chrome doesn't feel right...

chrome and FF are different, simple as that.

chrome is minimalist, firefox is add-on based. whether that will change in future versions is something that could be interesting. i wouldnt be surprised to see a "firefox basic", which would be chrome.

technically, IE had addons waaaay before FF. They were mostly just spyware/spam! :p

I use FF for years, and have never had any problems with it. I installed it because of its good add ons, and IE 6 had no tabs at the time. I think it was 2006 when they released IE7 (with tabs and buch of fixes). I don't know what is going on underneath (for example the security) but FF rules compering the IE. I would never guess, but according to StatCounter (I use to track visitors of my web sites), take a look what people use:

Perc. Browser Name Version

drill down 221 44.20% IE 7.0

drill down 91 18.20% IE 6.0

drill down 83 16.60% IE 8.0

drill down 35 7.00% Firefox 3.5

drill down 35 7.00% Firefox 3.0

drill down 14 2.80% Chrome 3.0

drill down 11 2.20% Safari 4.0

drill down 4 0.80% Safari 3.0

drill down 2 0.40% Firefox 2.0

drill down 2 0.40% Opera 0

drill down 1 0.20% Motorola Internet Browser 0

drill down 1 0.20% AOL 7.0

my choice at this moment is FF 3.5, but it seems that people who are visiting my sites are using IE almost 80%

Cheers

J.
