Windows 8 Consumer Preview

nice review. will be "fun" to move off xp finally... though the tablet part shouldn't be part of the interface. they'll make more money, but not great for the desktop user.

tried the consumer preview from my side. i must admit, the idea and concept are interesting.

i look at myself as a productivity user. therefore i can't see myself using it. navigation is too complex, takes too long in too many steps.

as i work in the it industry, i don't see my company and customers using it either. microsoft will be annihilating its business customers. the education of the workforce would simply be too time consuming and expensive. also software developers would need to adapt all major applications (we operate up to 380) which they won't be able to do in time.

since the operating system itself is really, really fast and cross platform compatible i really do hope that there will be a business version featuring a classic desktop including the start menu.

Nice review! When I tried the developer preview I just couldn't get the feeling for it. Its so radically different I just got fed up trying to re-learn what I've built up from their previous OS's. I might get around to giving it another shot if I have some free time.

So here's a question then:

Has anybody who has used it been able to envision it taking the place of Windows 7 on their daily PCs? I can certainly understand and accept Metro on a tablet, that even seems like a brilliant idea to me; but on a desktop? I'll pass.

I think i'm going to install this on my new HDD. I'm not to sure about it but I think I will attempt to get used to it and probably take the leap over when it comes out.
