FInally its time for a new build

I've put together a list of components for my next rig. I'm trying to keep it sub $2,500 but with as much power as possible. I'm thinking about maybe reducing the amount or speed the of memory and using the money save towards putting in a SSD as a boot disk.

CASE: Cooler Master HAF X

PSU: Antec TruePower Quattro TPQ-1000 1000W

Motherboard: Gigabyte P67A UD7

CPU: i7-2600K

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14

RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 16GB DDR3 2000 (4 x 4GB)

GPU: MSI GTX 580 Lightning (x2)

HD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s

What are you building your rig for, gaming, video editing?

If your building a gaming rig then there is no noticeable difference between the 2600K and the 2500K so there's your money for a SSD right there, depending on which SSD you wanted to go for ofc.

Best gaming CPU: http://www.tomshardw...view-32155.html

Also noticed that you have 2000Mhz memory. That isn't supported by Sandy Bridge (No idea why but if you don't believe me then check the board specs) so your better going for 1600MHz or 2133MHz but some believe 2133MHz to be pointless.

Also for gaming you only apparently need 4GB and 8 is overkill.

Looks like a really good powerful build, here's my 2 cents.

Case is personal choice the way I see it, however if you need recommendations I can give you some.

Don't have any experience with Antec PSUs however I have heard they are fairly reliable.

Do you really need 16GB of ram? I mean even 6GB is too much let alone 16GB, if you are going to do rendering and use memory intense programs I can see why but other than that, it would be better if you got 8-12GB and saved up to invest in an SSD.

I'v tend to go with Samsung Spinpoints, however your choice is pretty good too.

cpu, cpu cooler, mobo and gpu are all good choices, of course the whole build depends on what you are going to do with it, as you can save a pretty penny by changing some components.

What Karlos said about the 2500K, +1.

Do you really need 16GB of RAM, isn't 8GB plenty?Don't bother with a SATA III hard drive they're a scam, SATA II drives are as fast.

Cutting down on those should give you some money for an SSD.

Also you might need a bigger power supply if you stick with the 2700K and 2 580 Lightnings, assuming you're going to be overclocking of course.

I'm going to change the RAM down to 8G of 1866 which will save me $175

There is only a $2 between the SATA III and the SATA II versions of that drive so no real saving potential there.

With the 2500K vs 2600K it comes down to which is the better choice for overclocking.

The rig is going to be used for mainly gaming and some video encoding. I'm trying to build something that is over powered right now so that it can stay a viable gaming rig for as long as possible.

Or just spend half the money and buy new internals when your computer slows. I would buy 1 580 put that 500 in a savings accnt and buy another when you need it.

That is what I will be doing once I can get my money. I will take pictures so that everyone can see it.

As Karlos said the 2600K and 2500K when it comes to gaming, there is a small difference so save yourself the money and buy a SSD.

I'm changing the CPU to the 2500K and adding a Crucial C300 64GB SSD. I'm also upping the PSU to a Corsair AX1200 1200W.

I think there all sensible changes.

The AX850 would actually be enough for this rig, or did you want to go for the AX1200 cus you where maybe considering a third GTX580 at some point?

I've ordered all the parts for my new system with a few changes:

Case: Silverstone RV02. Better cooling than the HAF X and it certainly looks a lot nicer. I almost paid an extra $30 for the white version but then I would be slightly OCD about none of the internal components matching the white case.

Ram: Mushkin Enhanced Redline 8GB (2 x 4GB) 7-8-7-24 DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 997000. Tighter timings at a decent speed.

Gfx: 2 x EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 580. I don't think you can go wrong with EVGA graphics cards and the MSI lightning was out of stock everywhere when I placed my order.

Everything is supposed to get here by Monday next week. Does anyone else do what I do and constantly check the tracking numbers to see where my packages are on route.

Nice rig you are building m8

And i also check t&t constantly, when i have ordered something

Well I've had my new rig up and running for almost a week now and I would like to thank everyone who suggested the 2500K over the 2600K. It's running cool and stable at 4.7 Ghz

You have to love the cooling combination of the Noctua NH-D14 and the SilverStone RV-03E.
