Finally got round to the new build...!

Hey guys! Been a while since I was last active on here, and after getting Battlefront for Christmas couldn't think of a better time (being off work and all) to finally completely rewire my PC and stick her in a new case.

I don't game as much as I used to so the specs are super great but they're pretty spot on for me - apart from that GPU upgrade on the horizon

Been meaning for a while to do a completely black and red build color coordinated build but over time as moneys allowed I've finally got there!

Rig specs:

AMD FX-8350 @ 4.2GHz
Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-03 with 2 additional Xilence Fans
GA-990FXA-UD3
2x ASUS 6870 2GB @ 955MHz core, 1100MHz memory
16GB Kingston HyperX Red RAM @ 1866MHz
1 x 240GB Kingston HyperX SSD for OS and some games
1TB Seagate drive for everything else
OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W

Will try and get some better pics of the inside as it took a good 2 hours to rewire everything out of sight!

P.S if anyone else is playing Battlefront let me know!

Why are your GPU's so close together dude? On a GA-990FXA-UD3 the 2 GPU's should be in the top slot labelled PCIEX16_1 and the other in the slot labelled PCIEX16_2. First off it will provide better bandwidth to the cards and secondly will give room for airflow between the cards. I'm guessing that the top card is getting pretty damn hot right now.

Cheers mate, yeah I noticed a difference in heat after booting up and had a look and realised I'd stuck it in the wrong slot.. Will update with some better pics!

OK

Exactly what resolution will you be pushing with battlefront? Not sure how its multi GPU support is at the moment either..

I'm running at 1900x1080. With these cards its 'alright' but only just...

Yeah the multi GPU support isn't great in it. I was getting a fairly similar FPS on the single card..

PSU and CPU cooler are next on the list, considering a RMi 1000w. Then I think its time (overdue!) to retire these cards and get something a bit more upto date! :D

If you want to go with an AIO, have a look at the Fractal Design Kelvin series, depends on if you can get them where you are, also a look at the EVGA PSU's like the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 you get 10 Year Warranty with the cables have a look at CableMod Cables and you can it get in Dual Colours, I wouldn't really buy the Corsair Cable Kits.

The Kelvin series are reasonably priced! Look quite neat too, thanks dude!

10 year warranty is nice, I'm not sure if pushing to a 1000w will be a bit overkill (though future proofing?), even with possibility of crossfire/sli on the next set of cards down the line I think an 850w will suffice.

Yeah the 10 year warranty is good i'm even thinking of changing my PSU's over to EVGA ones cause of the 10 year warranty.

I wish my wiring was as neat

Thanks mate appreciate it! I must admit this is the first time I've actually taken care of the wiring as best I could.

Took a good 3 hours to clean the components and wire them into that case. Don't think it's too bad but don't like the black SATA cable from the SSD visible maybe I'm being picky ;)

Hopefully the H100 will be with you soon dude :)

I see you are running Xigmatek fans. I used to use those in my all AMD rig and on the H100 so they're great fans.

I brought them quite a while back and love them. They are great fans, push a lot of air but they're nice and quiet too!

Yeah thanks again can't wait to get it in :D

That's an awesome themed build too dude!

Cheers :) it was themed on the level from Left 4 Dead 2 (Dark Carnival).

I may have the rear 80mm fan that floats over the VRMs still. If I can find it I will chuck it in the post. It's very handy once you go over 4.5ghz as those VRMs get damn hot !

Awesome dude cheers! :)

Where did you get the themed acrylic on top of the CPU heatsink done? It's given me a few ideas ;)

Cracking job on the carnival theme too!

You mean on the pump block part? I just covered it in red vinyl then cut some graphics by hand (ZM = Zombie mod).

Sadly I don't have any left now (well, apart from yellow and orange..)

The cover I made is just a 3mm piece of acrylic held on by some double sided 3M tape foam stuff. If you want to get it off then just slide a razor blade between the acrylic and pump top and cut it away, then you can just rub it off using your thumb and some pressure. Then you can wrap it however you like.. Shame I don't have any vinyl I could have done that before packing.

What happened (in detail) was the guy who had the cooler before me used a three way fan splitter on the fan out on the top of the pump. It went bang and smoke came out so he removed the top of the pump unit and took out all of the guts of the fan controller. That left a hole in the pump top (there's a little round thing to adjust the fan speed) so he just stuck the top back on with silicon.

The pump itself is completely separate and is positioned underneath that, so none of that was touched.

That's alright dude appreciated everything as it is!

I'll have a gander when it arrives then, might see about putting a red LED on it or customizing the cover a bit! Might even wrap it with some vinyl.

Good postage day! AlienALX was kind enough to send me this Corsair H100 after he was finished with it along with 2 Xigmatek AF fans. Thanks dude!!

Got some red carbon effect vinyl on the way so hopefully at the weekend I can do a bit of customisation and get this fitted.

I think I'm going to remove the HDD bays, move the HDDs to where the optical drives would be and mount the rad at the front.

These look like they'd do the job - http://www.moddiy.com/products/5.25...Adapter-Hard-Drive-Rack-(3-x-HDD{47}SSD).html

Hey dude, been quite busy we've been decorating so the other half has had me on a tight leash :D

Need to get some pics and get it updated! Cheers for the cooler I got it fitted and its perfect!

Remove the HDD bays and have the rad sitting at the front, makes the case seem a bit more spacious as it was a bit cramped before

Put some red vinyl over the top of it so it pops a bit more inside the case and got rid of the 6870's for a interim R9 380 to tide me over for a while! Will try get some good pics and update this week!

Lilttle update, back at the upgrades and gaming properly now so decided to treat myself a bit!

Just ordered some new gear for my desk and PC being delivered tomorrow:

KFA2 GeForce GTX 1070 EX OC Sniper RGB 8192MB GDDR5
ID-Cooling 120mm High Performance Fans x7
NZXT Grid+ V2 (Finally)
Corsair Gaming K70 RGB Cherry MX Red
SteelSeries Siberia 150
A veltro tie strip (Gotta keep things clean)

Decided to change the lighting in the build to white with options to use a different highlight color with the RGB components. First proper update on this for about a year and realllly need to get some pics up soon!

The cooler is still going strong! Holding out to see what ryzen brings then I'll move onto the CPU, mobo and RAM!

Some pics following tomorrow hopefully!
