Faulty Noctua NH D14? 90c+

Gonna say some basic stuff now but...

<---- exhaust fan <---- cpu cooler <---- intake fan

I read you saying that it's all fixed but it's best just to double check.

Another thing you could try is remove the CPU from the mobo, place it on a flat surface and get something flat like a metal rule. Place this on top of the CPU to see if there a problems with the heat spreader.

Is it flat, concave or convex? If the latter two, how much? Try getting a pic or two.

It could require you lapping it, remember it invalidates the warranty so check that and watch some how-to's on you tube.

I'm not trying to sound pedantic, just trying to save you returning your equipment before you absolutely have to.

Try it with case open and a desk fan pointed at the cooler, this should eliminate case if the same as the picture shows limited airflow to the right of the D14 due to PS cables.

Try this then take CPU out and check if surface is flat like dhicks001 posted. Do the same with the D-14 it could be faulty?

If non of this shows a problem, then it could be that you just have a bum 920 that wont get any better at these settings no matter what cooler you use. You may have to just back your OC off to 3.6-3.8 and see what you temps you get.

Try the stock cooler.

I'd take a deep breathe, relax. Smoke'em if you got 'em.

Then fall back to this, everything at stock. Just to be sure it's a happy system without the NHD14.

Some screenies of what's telling you 90+ degrees might be handy.

im not really stressed just peed off, I thought buying a noctua would keep me cool but its way to hot for my liking, also im not prepared to lap anything just incase I dont see results, also on another sidenote im running prime95 large ftts today and after 20 mins im seeing 82c as the highest core, still a little improvement.. but when you see tinytomlogan get 68c on his rig.. kinda like :S but i also knocked down the vcore from 1.275 to 1.23

It's a little as to why I mentioned a screenie of it in action. Some thermal reporting software can be way-out on reporting temps. 10-15 degrees isn't unheard of depending what they think is the chips upper limmit.

this is screenies at the moment

EDIT

not stable so I uped the vcore to 1.25 and im seeing 86c max now

your using a 21 divider, try a 20 I thought 21 was auto overclocking and all the OC recommendations for your MB states 20 divider as most stable.

so far so good, but 5 mins into prime im seeing 85c..im sure this cant be right with the king of air coolers..

Ive just carried out 5 mins prime95 and get the following results.

I have a P6TD Deluxe, I7 920, Coolermaster haf 922 case with 2 120 fans on side panel, plus standard front and top Mount 200mm fans plus 1 rear exhaust. I have lapped my CPU and use NH-d14 with NT-H1 compound.

As you can see a couple of degrees difference between Core temp and CPUID hardware monitor

If you saw no improvement with the fans the RIGHT way round its still something you are doing. the air needs to blow out the back of the case. PLease take some more pictures. Its 100% something you have done. We can help you work out what it is.

Have you taken the plastic cover off of the base? Is the cooler mounted properly?

Also chaging the fans from the way you had them before should of 100% made a difference, thats why Im thinking something you have/havnt done is the issue.

that plastic cover on the noctua at the bottom, yeah thats off, i think? u cant mount the cpu with it on can you? im thinking of the big plastic cover at the bottom, is there any other covers?

ive checked the backplate and made sure the bolts are fully in, also i place the noctua on top of the 2 bars and screw in 1 then the other little by little till I cant turn
