hi all,

i recently purchased an i7-2600k on ebay, to replace an i5-3570k

i will use this for gaming editing etc

in games it works well, better than my i5..however, upon entering IBT and checking performance, i noticed the cpu is slowing down as it is going through the 10 'burn' runs

the results are incosistent and even when overclocked the same thing happens!

i dont think i ever noticed this with my i5.... what is going on?

please see my thread on another forums for for photos of the issue, even at stock clocks and voltages:

please help me!

It looks like it is throttling dude. Can you watch the clock speed during the run? Ie - keep CPUZ open? Do that and watch the clock speed. Edit. Also watch the voltage.

in cpuz it is staying quite consistent

4428.29Mhz @ 1.328V
&
4429.83 @ 1.336V

i dont know whats the matter... the most recent rest i am trying is IBT on Very High... so far the results look like this:

Do you have any other programs running at the same time, your "Available RAM" is looking really low right there on those screen shots. What are your system specs?

Put stress level to custom and enter 512MB see how that works

my GFlops score is even lower with this setting and still fluctuates slightly between 64 & 71

i closed as many programs as i could

strangely, i played about an hour of games yesterday (BF4 multiplayer which is cpu intensive)

i then did a few tests of IBT and got consistent results! 95 for 10tests and then a consistant 100 for another

today, however, the results are as yesterday... all over the place.....

my pc is:
i7-2600k
Corsair H60 with 2 Gentle Typhoons push pull
Asus P8Z77-i Deluxe
2x4GB Samsung Green VLP memory
eVGA GTX 780 SC
some 550w OCZ psu

unparking didnt help

what helped was that 'resource monitor' application... i never knew existed

i found that windows update was using up cpu performance!!! i turned it off and its better now!!!!

Ahh. Windows Update absolutely cripples a computer whilst it's running.

utter cancer

there were other processes such as

'Network Location Awareness'

'NVIDIA Network Service'

'Windows Defender'

etc.. that were also running... i dont need them

how do i make it so windows starts up without these stupid programs?

run msconfig.exe and either set the boot to diagnostic run or choose to boot into safe mode with networking, that will turn EVERYTHING not needed off and will let you run the CPU test for the best results
