Fan problems...

Hi,

I'm hoping this is a minor inconvenience for me...

I basically have 3 Thermaltake Thunderblades - 120mm x2 for Intake and Exhause, and just an extra 80mm on the side window. The problem is that they come with 2 plugs, a molex connector, which has the black and red lead, then a single yellow lead. When I wire them up, it makes them run at full speed, which is about 2000RPM +/- 10%, which is too loud for me. I subsequently bought a Scythe Kaze Master Fan Controller in order to control the fan speeds, but am I right in thinking that the yellow wire that plugs into the mobo/fan controller are only fan speed detectors, and therefore you can't change the speed ? Kinda bummed out as it would mean I'd need a new set of fans ! I can't work with 3 lots of 2000RPM fans going off in my face !!

Thanks in advance,

Jon

I'm afraid your probably going to have to go buy some nice new fans, since thunderblades have a molex (pass-through?) and a tacho signal wire.

In other word hopeless to use with your fan controller, if you don't feel up to wiring up a 3-pin. :(

Bummer, thanks for the reply. I'll go get some other one's that have just a straight 3-pin connector rather than a molex then a single yellow wire. I had guessed it was only a fan speed monitor. On the other hand, any idea if there's any good, cheap cases flying around ? Looking for something large and sturdy, with a side-panel - something around £100 :p

I had the same fans once what I done was cut and soldered your standard m/board 12v 3 pin connector on them and plugged into the motherboard with a fan quitener wich you can buy from maplin (basicaly a resistor on a wire). although I think you can get a molex version.

although I must tell you they are fairly noisy fans anyway and not a brilliant performer I would change them before spending money on resistor wires.

Aw, that's a shame, nevermind, will try and find some better fans. I'll see what's floating around and read some reviews. Thanks

Righto, seeing as I will need to ditch those fans, I'm looking for some 3-pin fans (so that I can control them) which has a high CFM. I don't mind it having loud noise, as I can turn them down with the fan controller to lower the noise. The one thing I need though, is for them to have blue LED's :)

Any suggestions ?

Are they similar to the Xilence Red Wings ? On paper the stats seem similar, but these have the nice blue LED ?

not sure about the xilence red wings but i think there a little better thet have good CFM low noise and a fairly cheap and have a nice blue LED effect
