has anyone had any experience with this fan controller? dont really want one that goes in the optical bays as itd make my case messy and would be to low to be easily reachable. it would be controlling 3 120mm fans aswell as my d-14 fans. also is it possible to control a 4 pin molex fan using this with a 4 pin to 3 pin converter?

I dont have that specifically, but I do have the Sentry 2.

Your point about the bay drive and reachable fans and stuff, you wouldnt. The fan controller itself comes with the cables out the back of it, and they are easily long enough. In my case (cm 690) I can hide it all perfectly within the drive bay and behind the back of the motherboard tray, so I have no complaints about that.

If it's the same as mine, which I'm guessing it is connector wise, each channel has a 3 pin and a 4pin molex out of it, so you wouldnt need adapters. This also means you can control both the fans from the d14 on the same channel which has proven good for me.

The only criticism I have with the fan controller is that it doesnt decrease the voltages. It turns the fans on and off very quickly to reduce the speed. This works perfectly fine for all my mix of fans at the moment - noctua, scythe, xigmatek and antec, but it does not work with coolermaster fans as the motor makes an unbearably loud noise. If you are using cm fans, i'd go with a lamptron or scythe controller, as they do decrease the voltages!

Hope this helps

i meant about the optical bays not being easily reachable from where i sit

but i kno what you mean

its not a huge case (zalman z9 plus). i comes with a fan controller but it only allows 2 fans and i can only set them to one speed so i might use that one for the d-14 and the nzxt for the case fans. im using zalman fans at the moment but i might replace them with some be quiet fans for the exhaust and some bit fenix spectres for the fans on show

thanks for the advice mate

I would say that fan controllers are not worth it, because you can use adaptors to set the speed of the fans so that your system is always optimize when you turn it on, also newer mobo's have a lot more fan headers now so if you wanted to you could control the fans that way and some cases also come with a fan controller so with a combination of adaptors, built in cases fan controllers and the mobo headers there is no need for a stand a lone fan controller, imo

You can use resistor cables but I think fan controllers add to the look of a build. It's down to personal taste though, so whether you think it's worth spending money on one is up to you.

ive looked through my bios so many times for fan adjustments but i just cant find anything except cpu fan

ive got cash burning my pocket to

the ssd can wait till ive finished exams lol

I have my fans on mother board headers and use Speed fan to control the speeds. can set up temperature curves to control fans so you don't have to wory.

Well ive tried setting all fans to slow down and theres no difference

probably just going to get that fan controller in a couplple of weeks after my ssd

Dont do it man. Save the money and get a bigger or quicker SSD. Figure out why speed fan isnt working and just roll with that. Fan controllers are just overated bling, you're gonna have more wires and more mess inside your case, you're gonna be constantly fiddling with fan speeds cause of that shiney display with all those sexy graphs and numbers and in 3 months time you're gonna say to yourself, "why didnt I just get a better SSD"

+1

Someone may have already said this (i read half the thread then got bored, sorry) but another thing to consider is that by using a fan controller, you'll never get your fans true performance.. 100% whack on a controller is not the same as full whack straight from the PSU... Just sayin'...

It's not far off though, something like 98%

think ill save for the ssd now

Don't get a 60GB SSD, get a minimum of 120GB, I just don't think 60GB's are worth the money, they have awful speeds compared to their bigger brothers. I got myself a 60GB Vertex 3 and regretted it a couple days later, I've taken it out now and its my benching hard drive, handy for quick benchmark loading times and quick windows load times
