Fan Controller mod....

Well, after buying a load of Silverstone fans, (mini review thingy here) and realising that they had proprietry speed controllers (the connections were...well...odd) My trusty fan controller was resigned to the box of spares. The only problem then being how to control the rest of the fans in my rig, especially with a 4-3 drive bay thing coming (which has a 120mm fan attached to the front)

This got me thinking, as I had used both front 3.5" bays for the fan controllers for the silverstone fans. Then I came up with a genius idea

+ = :D

So, I eventually got around to dremeling a hole in the back, getting my uber helpful grandad (he's a legend) to make a plate, and then riveted it into place :)

The final result, of which I am pretty pleased

Comments welcome

Very clean look there mate. Can i borrow your Grandad?

EDIT: Wow i was joking expecting u to be in USA or sommit, but you are in Essex :o

Yea, me Grandad is a bit of a legend with metal work. He was an engineer/designer by trade, developing products for a couple of firms, so he's pretty used to the whole design - creation process. And whats best of all, I get all his help for free :D (well, I do owe him a drink or two....)

Anyway, he helped me devise the way of mounting it and made the face plate for the back, I did the cutting of the case & fan controller and then the final mounting.

Basically, what I did was to cut a hole in the back of the case (not too hard) then use a dremel to straighten out the edges. With the fan controller, I cut two flaps out of the side of the mounting, and bent them forward, then drilled a hole each side. Meanwhile me Grandad made the plate (its not as if I can cut in a straight line)

After a few test fits and some final adjustment to the hole in my case, I positioned it all (the trickiest part of all believe it or not) and riveted it to the case :)

I've been testing it today, just waiting till I get my next hard disks & mounts to make full use of it (atm it is only running 1 fan, but that is more than I could fit elsewhere)

Dave

oh XMS, I'm sure he wouldn't mind, for a suitable fee of course :D
