Fan Consideration

Hey guys its that time again thinking upgrading some parts let me know what you think. Also give me some suggestions on fans you would recommend go good with this build. I have been thinking getting x3 Corsair AF120 Performance Edition High Airflow 120mm Fans for the front and rear of the case and x2 Corsair SP120 High Performance Edition High Static Pressure 120mm Fan for the H100 or I could just get a BitFenix Spectre PRO 230mm for the front and use the fans I would already have.

Case: Bitfenix Prodigy White
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe
CPU: Intel i7 2600K
Cooler: Corsair H100
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Black 2x4GB DDR3 1600MHz Dual Channel
GPU: AMD R6950 Twin Frozr III PE/OC 2GB
SSD: Corsair Force 3 120GB
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB
PSU: Corsair Professional Gold 850AX

[Note: The components highlighted in bold are the upgrade everything else I already have.]

I think all your choices are valid options. Really depends how much you want to spend? I think the only change I would make would be to swap the high SP rear exhaust for a High airflow.

personally I like all my fans to match, I guess if you wanted to go with the front Bitfenix option you could use the 120 spectre pro's on the rad + exhaust.

Be sure to post up a build log in this section when you get round to the work.

Whoops thanks noticed that I placed my rear fan in the wrong place. Dont worry I will put up the build log.

Also thinking of cutting the side panel and put in a clear window.

Hi nemesiszero,

I thought I should share my experience with the Corsair AF120 Quiet edition fans. I have a Corsair 600t and was using 4 x Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1450 rpm fans mounted to the side wire mesh to increase airflow to my SLI setup. I decided to try replacing them with AF120 Quiet edition fans to cut down on noise.

Anyway here's my experience:

They are quieter than the Scythe GT 1450s.
They don't move any air even on 100% - I've no dust filter etc, just the standard side panel wire mess.
When hooked up to my NZXT Sentry 2 and running on auto (typically 60-80% speed) they created a ticking noise.

Needless to say they are back in their box and gathering dust in the cupboard...

Perhaps the performance edition will be better, but at this stage I'm resigned to using the Scythes.

By the way I also use the H100 (with diode fix for pump noise) and I'm currently using 2 Noctua NF-F12 fans. I'm very happy with their performance.

The ticking noise...
I had the same issues when I used to have the fan controller. It's a problem with the NZXT sentry NOT the fans.
The fan controller doesnt reduce the voltage but insteads rapidly turns the fan on and off. This creates the ticking noise. It's not the only fan controller that does it, but it is very annoying.
go through molex and use the voltage reducer that was included, it'll disappear I'm sure.

Yes lads I remember this issue with the h100 back in the day. I also had it, the first fix everyone did was to place there desktops on its side people assumed it was air bubbles in the loop LOL. But the issue was caused from to high of a voltage from the PSU putting the pump into overdrive which made it hum like a bitch. I found reducing the voltage with a 4 Pin Molex Power Extension Cable and a 1N4001 Silicon Rectifier Diode which made myself fixed the issue 100%.

Hey just an update guys sorry for mess around but I have been thinking it over and I don't want to give up my full desktop experience. I love all the expansion that Full ATX offers over mITX does not. It would be a £300 upgrade just to make my pc look nicer so I think I will spend the money on hardware that will give a performance increase. Dont get me wrong the Bitfenix Prodigy looks great so I may build a second rig out of it making it a DAW/HTPC/Home Server 15tb  in the future.
