Fallout 3 Problem

Alright, well I just installed fallout 3 a few days ago (after wasting 50$ on it x.x) and it doesn't seem to want to run. I start it up, and i get a black screen for about 5 seconds and then it'll crash with an error saying "The program seems to have encountered an error and needs to close" or some error along the lines of that. Does anyone have any idea what this problem could be? I read that it was the FFDShow codecs, and I configured those already.. and even tried uninstalling them to see if that would work, neither of them fixed the problem.

Any ideas?

Yeah, i'm not a noob with computers or anything.. not trying to say that in a ****y or conceded way :P

I have an AMD 64 x2 4400+ (running at stock.. 2.2GHz)

BFG 8800GT OC2

2GB DDR2 PC6400

320GB SATA II

MSI K9N4 Mobo

I'm not totally sure what's wrong, at all. it worked fine on vista, now i'm back to XP on a fresh install (With drivers and the K-Lite codec pack) and it doesn't work.

Thanks again for all your help.

does the pc have problems with any benchmarks or stress tests?

maybe try reinstalling your NV drivers or backdating / updating them

You on service pack 3? also could run a dxdiag and see if everything is alright in there, failing that try reinstalling the game?

Nope, the PC doesn't have any problems with stress tests/benchmarks, and I do have the latest patch. And also my latest drivers.

go to your game directory find the fallout3.exe file right click propertys

compatibility tab

select run as administrator

if xp right click on the icon and select run as
