Extreme CPUs

Just wondering with the release of i7 should the Extreme 775 CPUs have a price drop?

What is the best QX?

With i7 setup meaning at least a £500 upgrade for me (im DDR3 already) the QXs are ridiculous prices given they are crap in comparison. Will their prices fall enough to cover the gap in performance?

I could get a QX and stick it in my rig but an i7 would need another waterblock and I aint seen a Fuzion adaptor yet.

Please remember this is not about i7 it is about the QX CPUs

well i presumed they would but i have not checked.

Though with intel saying that it is releasing new 775 cpu's a big price drop may not happen. still a knock of of £100 or more for the top QX's would be good.

have a qx9770 that has not been abused lapped or given any LN02 colds LOL that i may consider selling if your intrested, also have a evga 790i wich i may sell up, considering core i7 pm me if your intrested

I would say the QX9650 would be the best in terms of £/speed if buying new. The extra cost for the QX9770 just to have a 1600mhz fsb from the word go is not justifed as the QX9650 can easliy be bumped up in the BIOS.

On a side note, i'll be selling a QX9650, lapped to perfection giving same temp accross 4 cores, evga 790i ultra brand new (RMA replacement), evga 790i ultra few weeks old with full EK blocks and a set of OCZ Platinum EB2x2gb DDR3-1600 in the near future.......;)

yes but if your buying second hand I know wich one i would want qx9770 as for new....the difference isn't major however if you want the best.....

I'd only buy these new and from a place I can rely on the rma. I would take it that if ur getting one, u'll most likely do crazy things with it. U'll run 4.2 on air for the sake of it just to get a bench.

I've already rma'd one cos it's sensors were stuck, worked otherwize.

But in all honesty, myself, I'd not shell out large cash, even if it's half price to new, if I got no come back when it breaks on me in a few months.

Just imo.

What's Intel's direct rma like ?

£300 for new QX would get my interest but otherwise I'll be going i7 there is just too risk going with 2nd hand.

I'm not an idiot Rasto. I have a very large WC setup cooling my rig and if you'd paid attention to the few hundred posts I've made you'd know that or are my posts invisible to all but me :(

Meh, I've expressed my opinion on buying qx cpus at a cheap rate from a non rma'able source.

If u wanna take that personal, that's up to u.

Theres nothing wrong with buying a cheap QX second hand if the seller is reputable and it's in full working condition when received.

You have to be really daft or REALLY unlucky to kill a CPU with the kind of use 98% of people will put if through.... the only times i've seen of CPU's blowing up or dying is when they are in the hands of someone with an LN2 dewar. :P
