just got this news and thought it was kinda funny and worth posting...

its a damn good job they dont use lithium polymer (LI-PO) batteries in notebooks (yet) or else it wouldnt just be your lappy it might be your house too!

cheers j.

about a handful of laptops spontaneously "exploding."

Perhaps you've even seen the photo's of a certain laptop reportedly self immolating at a Japanese convention... Exploding laptops, fiery batteries, what's this all about!?

As laptops have become more compact, the high capacity Li-ion batteries that power them have been crammed into increasingly compact spaces with little room for appropriate ventilation...

The issue, and it is a very rare one, appears to stem from situations when a notebook's Lithium-ion battery pack catastrophically overheats. This causes the sealed Li-ion power cells to rupture, and in the ensuing chemical reaction sets off the rest of the power cells in a burst of fiery flames which ultimately result in one very charred notebook. Poof...

Have a look here to see if your notebook falls under the umbrella of models with recently recalled battery packs.

This happens with cell phones too... I've heard some horror stories of people phones exploding while they're holding em up to their head  Crazyness.

yikes glad im not using a laptop :eyes:

not thinking about the upper part of the body more the smaller middle parts hanging around

I'm on the Laptop now (Dell Inspiron B130), and it's on my lap *dundundun*

so you like living dangerous side of life :p

well the chance of it happening to a laptop cellphone or whatever is extremly small but its their.

when it comes to cellphone i heard they explode not due to bad ventilation but to a short curcruit which quickly creates alot of heat.

I'm pretty sure that in some cases of people who "lost their head" when using their cell phone, it WASN'T just a co-incidence, as the Israeli MOSSAD used it more than once...;)

My Samsung mobile battery get's really warm when surfing with WAP for some strange reason, although never when just simply talking on the phone...weird. I hope I don't lose my head :p
