EVGA GTX 670 FTW temps

Hello there,

So I have this GTX 670. Basically, it goes apeshit on temps on the stock profile. When playing Crysis 2 in 3d it actually went 100c once.

Ive since made a lot of changes in my chassi as far as aircooling goes, I think its pretty much as good as its going to get, and with a custom fan profile (about 1% per C) it maxes about 72c (1250mhz/3450mhz).

The issue is that I want to SLI it. Will this be possible? Will I gain anything from reseating the cooler and getting a backplate and whatnot or should I just RMA?

Will I need to put them under water in order to have sub 70/80 temps?

Apparently the cards start to throttle at 70 degrees - although I'm not sure how true this is.
I doubt you'll be successful on the RMA tbh.
Maybe reduce the overclock slightly?
Picture of case airflow maybe?

What resolution do you run?

I have one and I've never gotten it above 65 while playing Battlefield 3 on ultra on a summer day :L

What case do you have? What is your fan layout like?

Air should be fine. Fidgeted around with them loads to get the temps down. Used to be 76 at a lower overclock.

The card throttles 13mhz at 70c, another 13mhz at 80c and then 85, 90 etc. The 13mhz reduction doesnt really change anything gameplaywise... its only bad when benchmarking :(.

Like you say I really doubt theyll accept an RMA because my temps are 72c when overclocked. But the cards Keppler boost is over 100mhz, the highest Ive seen, which is probably why it gets so hot at stock. It should never ever ever reach 100c on stock settings tho.

Overall I really dislike the changes keppler brought. Its a great performing card but the good ol "up the volt, up the core, up the memory" sort of overclocking was easier.

I would start by turning the top fans to exhaust, to create a constant airflow inside your case. Also you should clean the dust out of your graphic card.

This will for sure help to gain some C°.

Ill try that, only Ive heard a lot of positive things about positive air-preassure, isnt it preferable to a lot of exhaust?

Ill take your word for it :) Ill up the volt and run a few heaven runs with intake first, exhaust second as soon as I get home.

If your going to buy a second card to sli why not reduce the OC a little bit, as the cards wont have to work as hard together compared to your single card.

Its not a reference cooler, its a vapor-chamber cooler on a 680 pcb. No reviews show it to hit 70c on stock.

Anyways, now that theyre intake instead the card heats up a lot slower and only hit 70 on 3 unigine runs :).

Thank you for your tips guys! Ill try reseating the cooler later on when SLI becomes an option :).
