In the process of installing my water block, i lost the factory backplate that came with the card, on the back of the card there are memory modules and there was TIM pad on the backplate. Is it safe to run the card without the backplate?

Also i get no signal from the card during post but it comes back once windows is loaded. Any ideas?

Try swapping pci slot for signal, regarding the missing backplate then I'll guess youll find out sooner or later.

If there isn't a backplate from your waterblock manufacturer you could buy a set of vram heatsinks and use those for the stuff on the back that needs cooling

I was thinking of getting the backplate from EK but its about $35, might as well just get some adhesive thermal pads for like 3rd of the price.

I resolved the no signal issue, I had set the BIOS to use onboard video when i took the card out and forgot to change it back.

Now there is another issue, if i push card past 85% TDP, i get this loud annoying coil whine. Is there any trick to fix that? (mind you i can only really hear it with the side panel open but knowing that its happening is really annoying:angry:)
