IDNet is £25 for 2mb unlimited.

Was. Now it's capped at 30gig/month. We are waiting an official comment as to if SX members are also capped or are still unlimited as was described in the offer.

think im going to be asking for my mac code if they change it to capped, i dont tend to download much, but thats not the point. if they change the goal posts once, whats stopping them from doing it again in the future.

I think this change will be one off as i am sure they werent expecting many users to rush to their accounts and on top use such high bandwidth. I dont think any company can stand unlimited usage with such high cost prices ( BT wholesale ). What i think would be best thou to either make the cap 40gb as it is easy to get to 30gb range or peak time 20gb , off peak time 30gb which wont effect their business customers. ( This would obviously need a tool to calculate the usage in different time cats )

Afterall they have great customer service :)

Edit : I wonder will i get/allowed extra bandwidth to finish SX-Downloads Section :D

OK guys, the official stance is as follows:

"Dear SX Members

The Special Offer for SX Members stands, we have no desire to cap SX people.

Unforunately, bandwidth is very expensive and we cannot afford to subsidise

heavy downloaders. We have acquired too many large bandwidth users recently

and the published pricing model makes the trend unsustainable. Hence the

need to discourage high users. Our primary objective is to deliver a fast,

stable network.

We would like the SX deal to benefit everyone. All we ask is to please

recommend us if you feel that our service, performance and reliabilty are

satisfactory. And please try to keep your bandwidth consumption reasonable.

If anyone feels that 30Gb is just too low for them and that they are likely

to be using more than that regularily and so they want to move on then we

will supply a MAC code with no quibbles.

Best regards

Simon"

The way i read it is:

We don't want to place a cap on the SX offer, however please try to keep your bandwidth low. If you dont think you are able to do this, then we'll be happy to allow you to migrate away from IDNet.

Slightly confused. So is that a request to voluntarily keep ourselves below 30 gig or is it an IDNet enforced cap. I'm not bothered either way I just think it's unclear.

Confused????? can't you see that this is a kind request that benefits all here. If it was'nt for XMS in the first place, offering us this great deal, we would'nt be here enjoying this, not just a great offer but great cs from a company who, clearly knows what they are about. If ppl don't like it.....well the answers are within this thread. If ppl want unlimited d/l then there is a price to pay. like anything else in life............

I am sure there are alot of members out there that agree. Mind you there's always one'!!!!!

There are 3 things in life you just cannot avoid.....tax, death and old age!

Life is'nt difficult it's the poeple who make it difficult.

all seems fair enough to me, i do often wonder "what" people download if they need more than that amount every month.

From the content of the e-mail, no I couldn't. That is why I sought clarification on here. I think you'll find some of the other posters thought it was an ISP cap, effectively changing from what was previously unlimited.

Personally, I'm delighted with IDNet. I'm a light user, hence my earlier assertion to never look at the proverbial equine dentures.

Never look a gift horse in the mouth. tbh I could live with a 30 gig pcm at £14.99 a month. AFAIK still don't think you could get that elsewhere.

One what? btw - that's a rhetorical question,

IDNet need to give users some way of monitoring their bandwidth. My router doesn't do it, and I cant run netmeter as my server makes daily shadow copies of all the computers in my house's hard drives, which would skew the data. :\

Quite right. I know that I am considered a light to moderate user at below 8gb per month.

What the hell people are doing downloading over 100gb per month is totally beyond me

I don't know... my harddrive is only 80gb, and once I've got everything on it (including a copy of linux!) I'm left with around 30gb to play with. The thought of downloading much more than that a month, even with two computers and a stay at home dad downstairs astounds me.

30gb should be enough, though I may go over it occasionally (especially since I'm streaming radio quite a bit at the moment :p) it shouldn't be a problem, even though I consider our broadband usage quite heavy.

Don't ask tbh, some people recently got the push from BT, and they had been downloading ~300gb a month. Its possible to download about a max of 620 gb a month, but how the hell do you store it?

I've been informed that this feature is in the works. :)
