Elite Dangerous: Beta 1 Launch night Stream and Flight wing info

Man this server load sucks.. I haven't even downloadede the main game yet. It just keeps going then stopping for 10mins then goes just for another 5 secs then stops for another 10mins.. just repeats.
 
Sure is. I think they've got major issues. SHame I can't go and get the download myself. It'd be alot faster.
 
Regarding optimization. Game runs at 120+fps, then drops every few seconds down to 45. What is going on here.
Only in hyperdrive though.

It seems to be related to the rings of the planets i think. The more stuff orbits the planet i pass the more frequent the framedrops get.
Still i get 80 - 120 fps on maxed settings, which is 2-3x better than what i get in SC. Of course SC looks better, but i prefer the high framerate, also ED is far from ugly.
No idea how they managed to compress that game to less than 3GB, i expected something north of 15GB.

I haven't enjoyed the game yet.. using a mouse/KB right now. its god awful.. my kit arrives tomorrow though:)
 
Just bought a Thrustmaster hotas. Still going to slum it on a KB/M for one more night. If there is a stream tonight I can actually join in the flying as the download servers actually worked.

I'm guessing these are the basic textures with the more intensive ones coming soonish. Hence size.


I love how this game actually seems to deliver what it promises. Optimisation is solid (compared to Star Citizen) already and it looks great despite size.

Aye, there's a lot of stuff in there for the size, a lot of the game is procedural so that's just maths really :P

As for framerate, in warp, most of that is also to do with it loading, and I think I can liken most of the frame drops to the server-side of things being a little more loaded than they were pre-main-beta.

If you haven't yet, go to a planet's ring and just LOOK at all the asteroids you can see.. just astonishes me every time i go near one. Especially flying in and seeing that 'ring' texture turn into millions of little specks and then BAM, asteroids!!!

The textures are actually pretty good already dude :)

Actually finding each other is quite a chore, you should be able yo form a squad. Me and sub tried to meet yesterday. We failed.

Most of that is server issues tbh, once they get the load sorted out like they did with previous beta phases i'm sure it'l be fine.

Mouse yaw will always be weird in ED, they've already said they don't want at turrets in space game so much, so yaw is really slow compared to pitching and rolling.

It makes for better joystick play in my opinion anyway.
 
Got my Hotas flight kit today! Wohoo!!

Edit: I would actually enjoy this game if i knew what to do.. as of now i am just floating in space doing nothing.. I played solo to learn and stuff but i have done nothing really. Don't know where to go to dock and refuel and stuff. I know how to dock but its just getting there.

So yesterday i was doing a couple missions when i suddenly got hungry. That was when i remembered that i put a pizza in the oven. 40 minutes ago. God damn it ED.

Go through your contacts and look for cities to lock on to. I believe you start near Azeban city.

20km from azeban. I know because i tried to land without permission. I was right at the gate, figuring out how to get permission and accidentally hit boost. Crashed right through the gate. Had to pay 300cr
