Right well after selling some stuff i ive got enough for a new dualy for some nice high fsb action.

Now the hard part... im stuck on what e8xxx chip to get

Mobo is a p5k premium with 4x1gb xms2 800, i also have 2x1gb ocz reaper 1066 that i might use untill i can afford a 2x2gb 1066 kit.

Im also getting a cpu (possable NB aswell) water loop soon, but a dual rad is biggest i can go in my antec 300.

So what to get:

E8400 for £125 new.

E8500 for £140 new.

E8600 for £150-160 used.

OR would it be better to get say an e7500/7600 (£85/£100)? how much difference would the extra 3mb cache make?

if i get an e8xxx im looking for 4.5ghz 24/7 hopefuly once i get the water.

The main thing im looking to do is pull as much fps i can without upgrading to the new gpu's or i series for now.

Any advice would be muchly liked.

Other things aside, I would expect the 8500 & 8600 to have a similar ceiling to the 8400.

So if ur gonna clock the heck out of them anyway, the 8400 would be my guess.

Maximum multipliers are 9x, 9.5x, 10x respectively iirc.

With whatever cash u save, think about settling on a quality 2x2g memory.

E8600's will pwn an e8400 Rasta, most will do 400x10 at stock volts or there abouts.

Id say choices are e8500 or e8600 for 500+fsb

E8600 will near on deffo do 550fsb if the mobo will go that far tbh.

That's still 4g, even if they themselves went to 4.5 on air, I'd still expect them to level out the same as the other E8xxx cpus.

It'd depend on ur choice of memory and how well the mobo handles the combination as to whether u'd prefer a x10 over an x9 I'd spect.

EDIT: for the ram ive decided on some OCZ platinum 1200, at £60 its not over my budget when i go to upgrade, till then i have 2gb 1066 ocz reaper if push comes to shove

I paid £75 for my E8500 and have got it to 4.2ghz @ 1.27vcore on a Striker Extreme 780i mobo....going like a dream, will do more but seeing as i have 2 8800gtx's on the same loop, heat is my only concern. Well happy, she'll do more, but im not pushing it...

i keep... *digs deeper*

front left: lighter, key ring (9 keys 3 keyrings), yoyo.

Front right: phone, another lighter.

Back left: wallet.

back right: change,

Leg left: mini pen knife (getting dirt out of my skateboard wheels), cigs,

leg right: nintendo ds (my mp3/4 player), about 30 elastic bands.

thats about it realy... altho i just found an army man in my ancle pocket and some safety pins in the other ancle pocket.... dont usual use them mind.

haha, its habit, go to bed and just DUMP eveything on my desk then sort out were to put it the next morning when im getting ready

Lol, I have a phone in my pockets! Never carry anything else on me while im in the house. Even when I go out I only add wallet, keys and ipod.

Anyways, back on topic, I have an E8500 running 24/7 at 4.4 GHz with 1.35v. Got mine for £100 second hand, not as much of a bargain as Socks got but still not bad. Im sure it should be able to go higher but for some reason i cant get it above 4.4, can try different multiplier and fsb but refuses to go over 4.4 :(

i still havent decided what to get realy, a mate is giving me grief about moving from a quady to a dualy but i cba to listen to him, i didnt just sell 2 quads to buy another quad!
