E8400, best stepping, product code?

What stepping/product code/revision number should I look for on the E8400 to get the most out of it in overclocking?

Which of the following eSpec numbers give the best overclocking?

SLAPL (C0)

SLB9J (E0)

How does the eSpec number relate to the manufacturer product code BX80570E8400?

I've got the E0 version - just bought it off ebay a few days ago. Running at ~4.38GHz with 1.25v :)

E0 is the best for overclocking, can get the same clocks on much less voltage. Had a C0 because I got it dead cheap but needed about 1.4V for 4GHz. Got an E0 and it would do 4GHz at around 1.3 but that was a quick overclock not done properly as I then went for an E8500 E0 hahaha.

Sold the E8400's off for what I bought them for so no loss really, they were upgrades just for curiosity rather than needs :) But go for an E0 if you can

E0 is the newer, revised stepping, and that's the one to get. All the new one's should be E0. If you have the batch number of the processor, you can sometimes get an indication as to it's overclocking ability, as this indicates which other CPUs it was made with, and where in the wafer they came from, with the ones nearer the centre supposedly clocking better.

Take a look at this link, and also you can put the batch number into google and sometimes get a match.

If any of that isn't correct, someone else please chime in and set me straight!
