e4300 / virtualization

hi.

how good overclocker is e4300 ?

the e4300 lacks VT(virtualization) but can it do anything for me beside running multiple os at the same time ?

After one nights clocking - got more room to go but I'm being lazy tonight

e4300 does not support virtualization and when i searched on it i found a note on tomshardware that vt can be used to run multiple os simultanously which is of no interest for me but is there anything else vt can do ?

is of no problem for me, im aiming for a 2.5-2.6ghz overclock which is 277-288mhz.

i prefer to be on the safe side as the computer is on 24/7.

llwyd, whats the temp at that speed and what kind of cooling do you use ?
 
then there is no reason paying extra to get an e6x00 then.

btw how big difference is it performancewise between cas4 and cas5 memories with a c2d cpu ?n
 
Not a huge amount, bandwidth is King for Intel. Having said that you'll still get better performance from CAS 4 (obviously)
 
It's actually slower than E6300's clock for clock some people have discovered. Real Allendale for the suck? Current (not for long) E6300/E6400 are Conroe's w/2MB L2 Disabled.
 
read through a 4300(3.47ghz) vs 6300(3.5ghz) and there was almost no difference at all.

less than 100 points in 3dmark01.

but found this and what is vpro ?

Accordng to DailyTech E4300 will also lack support for VT and vPro,

Thanks Raven, that link PV provided was so full of buzz-words and talking loud and saying nothing - it was rediculous.

So the backbone of the E4300 vS E6300 is prehaps if u can see u`rself using Vista within the expected lifespan of u`r pc. If u`r not going to go Vista until SP1+, then u`ve probably got little qualms. That`s if u`r a clocker.

Llwyd has demonstrated some excellent calculation skills of the E4300, I`m dying to see his scores from 3DMark06 and the likes. Some1 has posted here that it`s under 100 points difference - I personally think that`s outstanding.

I guess the step up to the E6x00 with the bigger cache would be a bigger difference.

i dont plan on going vista at all and if i do i could always upgrade the cpu to something better if need be.

could be of interest, note that the e4300 is running somewhat slower then the e6300 its compared too.

not neccessarily, when looking at amd64 and 512kb cache vs 1024kb cache the difference is slim to nothing and in many tests such as superpi 512kb cache is superior, but not by much.

have not seen any tests on c2d so it might differ.
 
Personally from reading this and finding out these features are missing from the e4300, I'd go for a e6300 instead if I was on a budget as they cost the same.

Also the e6300 & e6400 overclock well :)

I just had a play with that VT thing and it seemed to speedup virtualization quite a lot on VMWare & Parallels.

That vPro thing seems a bit vague in that only Vista is mentioned :confused:

Altho I guess we've not seen many e4300's overclocked yet so don't know how good they are at clocking.
