Don't you love it when your video card explodes and takes your PSU with it?!?!?!?!?

So mad right now......

Got my 2nd HD 4870 today for my Crossfire setup, along with my brand new PCP&C Silencer 750 PSU. Got everything installed, spent 2 hours redoing all of my cable management, hit the power switch, flash, pop, smoke, nothing.....

When it happened I couldn't fathom that my new PSU was the culprit so to be sure I hooked up my old PSU and left the new video card unhooked from the PCI-E power cables. Booted right up, so then I was leary about the PSU, however the PSU didn't smell like the genie, down around my GFX did so then I got to thinking.

I plugged in just the new video card with my old power supply, hit the switch, just a blip from my old power supply, system wouldnt power on, smelled smoke again. Pulled out the new card and did a thorough inspection, blown cap on the backside of the card, literally exploded, left a nice scorch on the card.

Not sure if it only popped the fuse in my new PSU or if it actually condemned it to the grave. Unfortunately I can't check without voiding the warranty so I am going to go the RMA route through PCP&C first.

The worse news, after testing with my old PSU, now all of the rails on it are low, and in Windows Asus monitoring software is giving me voltage warnings, SOB!!!!!!!!!! It may have pwned my old supply as well.

This eBay seller is going to get the wraith for sending me this turd video card, I know that much!

.

Hope it all goes well, make sure you keep posting in this topic.

Woohoo, more great news! It has condemned my motherboard as well. My onboard sound no longer works.

Really glad I got to blow up $200 worth of gear with one press of the power button! So awesome!

Yup, gonna be using my laptop for a while it looks like!

I'm gonna pull a total dick move and RMA the motherboard through Newegg as being defective because quite honestly I can't afford a new mobo, and I am certain their mega multi million dollar corporation can spare a $100 mobo, lol.

If it's dead defo worth a try, I would do the same tbh

. I still hope all of my comp parts work, I have no way of testing them atm as they're just sitting there boxed. When I get PSU I'll check them out.

Good luck with the RMA

Thanks! Argh, shipping is $25 to get this mobo back to Newegg, that's shatttttty.... 1/4 the cost of the board, lol.

I reckon I can get about $1000 from one of my RC cars so I'm thinking about selling it and reinvesting it in to the old computer. Maybe a Crosshair V and some money stashed away for an FX-8150p w/ a Silver Arrow.

Mate that sucks but I know how you feel...

Had a power surge take out a HDD, GPU, PSU and Mobo all in one fell swoop.

Ouch! I'd never have thought a GPU could fail so badly as to take out several other components like that! Guess I've been lucky...so far!

I had a PSU in a friends machine overheat BADLY once, all the pastic parts inside it melted, caught fire and were then blown out the back by the fan. PC was in a corner against the wall and we were wondering what this strange glowing was on the wall! PC didn't shut down or anything...obviously *I* shut it down rather rapid though!

Cheap PSU, no cut-out protection = BAD! Was a fair few years ago though when a 300w PSU was enough...usually.

Best of luck getting things sorted mate.

Scoob.

Yeah, think I'm gonna opt for the Crosshair. I'm now quite fond of the UEFI BIOS too.

I salute you, RIP!
