Dominator 1866vs2133 for video editing

Hi guys,

I've spent quite a while trying to figure this out; thought I'd concede defeat an ask.

Making a new rig for video editing; trying to decide between frequency and timings.

Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB 4x8GB DDR3 PC3-14900 1866MHz Quad Channel Kit (CAS 9-10-9-27)
vs

Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB 4x8GB DDR3 PC3-17066 2133MHz Quad Channel Kit (CAS 9-11-11-31)

other info
i7 4930k
either asus deluxe or RIVE BE (ivy-e optimised and many sata connections needed)

I have a feeling 2133 would be more suited to the constant reads (Sequential?) needed for video editing; but the lower timings of the 1866 got me all nice and confused. I know that 1866 is supported out of the box with the new mobo's, so is there any considerable side effects to oc'ing with xmp up to 2133? 1866 sounds like less hassle

Many thanks for your time; sorry if this is a familiar question.

cheers
Andy

Tbh it more depends on the software you use to render. Most prefer higher clocks while a few others prefer a balance of both. I would go for the higher clocked ram because it can always go down easier compared to OC ram upwards(if that makes any sense).

Also might want to reconsider your ram for more something like the Corsair Pro versions and save money that only gains you aesthetics.

I agree with NBD on going for Vengeance Pro over Dom Plats, you really are just paying for the looks, and when you're buying a 32GB set you'd save a fair whack of cash

Oh, and welcome to the forums :D

Yeah, don't go for the Dominator Platinums, because they are overpriced. If you enjoy throwing money away, go ahead. They do look cool!

Cheers guys; I don't mind spending £50 extra for looks.

Was going to get the V pro red from oc but they are 1600mMHz so thought I might benefit from the 2133.

Come to the overclock3d forums, not to get answers to your questions, but to be told not to buy that expensive bit of kit you are asking about...yay...

Watch your attitude.

NBD answered your question, yet despite that you didn't tell us what software you use. PS, it's specific.

Dude, replies like that don't go down well here. Especially when as a community all we want to do is help each other get the best for their money. Even the rich can afford to save a few quid so why wouldn't we suggest the Vpro modules.

For all we know you could've been unaware that the dom plats are purely a visual upgrade.

As for your question generally the faster modules would be better but as others have said it can be dependent on exact use and programmes so i'm no expert there

The question of which is best out of the 1866MHz kit and the 2133MHz kit depends on the specific software packages you use. Most pieces of software will prefer higher speed ram than the lower latency, so I'd choose a 2133MHz kit.

We all suggested the Vengeance Pro series because it would have saved you a lot of money, for virtually the same performance. It's only our opinions, and us trying to help you out in case you weren't aware. You're completely welcome to buy the Platinums, it's completely up to you to make the informed decision.

Gotta love this xD "Hey dude, let's agree to disagree. I can't force you to be right." ^_^

I was being serious, I think I'd get Dominator Platinums for the awesome looks too, but I still want to make sure people know that the main difference is just the looks though because some people wouldn't be happy paying a premium for aesthetics alone :)

As would I! But only because I could.. not because it's sensible ;D
