Do I have THE worst 4670K?

Hi there,

Since day 1 I have my pc I have an insane amount of trouble overclocking, or even getting it stable @ stock. Even when I load the default settings in BIOS, I still bluescreen at times during both heavy and light loads such as browsing the internet. I got the feeling the reason is the cpu. Here is a little validation for you, at default BIOS settings, except loaded XMP profile 2 (Prime95 is running with large fft's for maximum cpu load)

So, that's what I'm testing now, if the pc is stable running the memory below specs. But man, that v-core is sick. I lapped the cpu even before building the pc and that might just be the worst idea I've ever had. I'll just have to deal with it now. I am still curious though, exactly "how bad" is this chip?

Holy crap that's a sh*t load of voltage for that speed... If that voltage is needed for that speed, I'd be returning it!

This doesn't add up to me, should be able to get stock clocks at under 1v on an average chip lol. 1.2+? Crazy!

Have you checked the error codes and logs to see if you have another issue? The first thing I'd try would be backing off on the RAM, trying low speeds and loose timings to make sure that XMP isn't causing an issue (I've had that before...)

Could be a bad bios or driver install causing the system to bluescreen.

If that's really your max clock it would be really weird i haven't seen a single i5 4670k/3570k that can't reach 4,3 or higher. I'd try a bios reinstall/reset and check every single setting. Because this doesn't look right in the slightest.

Maybe your memory controller on the cpu can't handle the memory speed, could be that the memory controller is getting to much volts with xmp profil. I had this with my i7 950 , The controller of my 950 got more as 1.35 volt for 2000mhz on the memory, this with xmp profil loaded, I had blue screens, after putting the voltages manually in the bios, the problem was gone . like Tom said, rule out things, underclock the memory, lose timings, default auto volts, manually volts for the memory, use first 1 memory stick, then the other one, use both of them, don't forget to update the bios, install the latest drivers, reseat the cpu, You have to rule out everything, so you can pinpoint the problem, it can take time before you really know where the problem is.

Well to work through this problem:

Reset BIOS to default settings, including RAM, leave it with XMP off. Leave the vCore at 'Auto' or set it manually to 1.2v Remove any other HDD's (Except boot drive) Remove any GPU/Other Expansion cards.

Now boot up and run Prime. If fail then:

Remount the CPU cooler, try removing 1 stick of RAM. Also ensure the latest BIOS update for your board... Run Prime again.

Fail?

Try boosting the vCore up to 1.25v and run Prime again. Fail?

Well I can't think of anything else! Sorry, if all of that didn't resolve the issue then you are unfortunately going to have to live with it Or go and buy another CPU
