I have a question for you inteligent people.

I current have my domain name with 123-reg, i'd like to point either mail.domain.com or domain.com/mail to my exchange server at home.

At the moment i access it using the following, https://ip.ip.ip.ip/exchange/:90

could anyone tell me how to go about this, using the cname, a or txt dns record.

many thanks!

For mail.nathan.com you need to set up an 'A' record that points to the IP address of your server mate.

If you want nathan.com/mail then you'll need to create a web forward (not really DNS related) to whatever URL you currently access your exchange webmail on. So basically when you hit on http://nathan.com/mail it forwards you to the https://ip.ip.ip.ip/exchange/:90 address.

EDIT: Is your exchange server at home even receiving mail for your domain? If not you'll also need to set up an 'MX' record...and your domain will need to look like this:

mail.nathan.com 'A' 111.222.111.222

nathan.com 'MX' 0 mail.nathan.com (0 is mailserver priority)

Thats the basics anyway.

thanks for tips matey.

MX records have been set up for a couple of months now. It's weird but since i moved from a normal pop3 hosted by a hosting company to an exchange, spam levels seem to have increased.

Do you have any anti-spam software on the exchange server? Ideally you want something like spamassassin along with spam blacklist checks as a bare minimum.

I did have a vmware appliance sat infront of the exchange, but it wasnt really doing much and i didnt have much understanding of fine tuning it.

spamassain looks pretty good, have a read through it all now. Cheers!

On a side note, my domains are 123-reg, they charge you £10+vat for a sub domain. Pffffffffft.

Now have mail.domain.com pointing to the right place :D

ta much!
