OK OC3D here is my dilemma my MSI Z97 Gaming 7 had a PCIE lane fold today but MSI don't have a replacement board.
They do have a Z97 Mpower AC and to help me match things will help me out with a pair of 980ti Lightnings at a reduced price
Or I could get a Z170 Gaming 7 for free and then I need to buy a CPU and Ram
So which way would you go Im sorta leaning toward the Mpower with 980Ti's but i would like to hear what you guy's and gal's think either way is going to be costly but about the same cost
Cheers

That sounds like the most badass RMA i've ever heard. I would 100% take the MPOWER and Lightnings.

Are they straight swapping them for your cards or just doing a good deal? Awesome either way.

I'd sooner put money into Ti's than a skylake CPU and DDR4. Especially as MPower/XPower/Lightning are soooo much nicer than GAYMING kit.

Im just getting a deal on the lightning's and I already have a buyer for my 980's, Im losing 300 on them which isn't too bad I suppose and thanks for your input :)

I would take the deal for sure. But tbats just me. It is much easier than having to buy a new set of RAM cpu etc.

Lighnings and Mpower all the way dude. Snap their hands off, and buy a yellow 780T to put it all in, and then take lots of photos of the lovely yellow awesomeness.

Me thinks a yellow 780t wouldn't look very good.Though I guess it could be becausr I have always been more of a simple person.

Well thanks all for the replies I should have an answer on how much the Lightnings will be this afternoon it's 8;30am now so will let you all know how I get on

If you're only losing 300 on the 980s and the Lightnings come in around or just over the price you originally paid for the 980s then it's a no brainer. Go for it!

I know the Lightnings retail for a round $1200 here and my 980 was $850 for the first one and second was 750 (reduced when the ti's were announced)

Besides if you don't like the yellow - There's always modding ;)

Oh and you'll have to mod the SLi bridge as well to match.

I'm losing $400 over what I payed as I'm letting him have the SLI bridge and the Lightnings are $1229 is the cheapest online ATM so will be interesting to see what sort of deal I can get either way It's probably gonna cost me $1200 as a 6700K +16gig 3600MHZ ram is gonna set me back that but it all hangs on the deal

From what I've seen the upgrade to Z170 isn't that huge in real world terms but the upgrade from even 980s to the Lightnings would be pretty noticeable.

You can always take the deal and just swap out the CPU/Mobo/RAM in a year or so when DDR4 prices settle. Seems the 6700k's are going for a premium as well.

Not only the 6700K's the 4790K's are more expensive than when i bought mine all due to the crappy $Au and companies trying to milk everything for all they're worth

Well I got good news today they found a replacement board for me a Z97a Gaming 7 which means I'm not out of pocket and it steps me up to USB C and 3.1 :D

It's actually nice not to have to put my hand in my pocket for a change and to be going up a step too was a real unexpected bonus
